LIFE INSURERS TESTING FOR DEMENTIA

More and more senior citizens and those nearing retirement are buying Life insurance these days. Many of these people are worried that their spouse will run out of money if they die; while others hope to make up for losses suffered in the stock market decline.

An increasing number of Life insurers require testing the cognitive abilities of older applicants, in addition to taking a physical exam. Some companies make it standard practice to test applicants 60 years or older, while others begin testing at age 70 or 80.

Learn more about the reasons for this testing here, along with the associated study findings by the Alzheimer's Association.(Please scroll down.)

This focus on cognitive impairment among senior applicants offers one more reason for consumers to buy Life insurance when they're young, in good health, and can benefit from lower rates.

Spring greetings!

Benjamin Franklin said, "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." He could have also added one more thing, and that is,"You don't know what you don't know!"

We are all aware of what we already know, but we can't possibly be proficient, let alone experts at everything. As our Cross team of licensed agents continually pursues professional education and certifications, you can rest assured that they will provide you with expert advice and policy reviews that keep you fully informed about all of your protection needs, including those needs that you may not know about.

With this in mind, our Cross Insurance team of professionals has recommended the following valuable articles for your consideration, here in our April newsletter. Several of these resources are time-sensitive, and also provide insight into the unique concerns that you or your business might face. We want to make sure that there aren't any gaps in your Personal, Health, Life or Business coverage. For this reason, we encourage you to take these few minutes to "invest in your own knowledge," to ensure that you are protecting the people and the assets that are most important to you. Then, give us a call today with any of your questions. Our trusted advisors look forward to helping you!

Very best regards,

GREATER FLOOD RISKS
ARE PREDICTED FOR THIS SPRING!

The next three months are expected to be a mix of flooding,  drought and warm temperatures nationwide.

If you are a homeowner, renter or business owner, please be aware that your standard insurance policies do not protect you against damage from flooding. Flooding is expected to be worse this spring compared to last year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. With a 30-day waiting period for flood policies to take effect, a FEMA official says that now is the time for individuals and businesses to review their insurance coverage.

Flood coverage begins as low as $129 per year for
a preferred risk homeowners policy and $162 for
qualified business owners.

The winter rainy months bring all kinds of wet and snowy weather, and they also bring conditions such as heavy rains, ice jams and  rapid snow melt followed by the spring thaw that can increase your flood risk. Flood insurance will help you financially protect your property from these weather events.

Flooding can happen anywhere, but certain areas are especially prone to serious flooding. Learn more about your own flood risk in this helpful article: Think You Don't Need Flood Insurance? Think Again!

And, after getting flood insurance, please be aware that there are several things you can do in order to minimize the losses in your home and ensure your family's safety.

Call our Cross office today to make sure that there are no coverage gaps with your Homeowners or your Business protection and flood coverage! You'll be glad you did!

AUTO LIABILITY INSURANCE:
HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?

Have you ever wondered about the three numbers that are part of your Auto Liability insurance, usually written in this form: XX/YY/ZZ?

The first number refers to the maximum amount of Bodily Injury Liability (BI) for an individual injured in an auto accident; the second is BI per coverage per accident; while the third covers Property Damage Liability (PD) per vehicle. For example a policy with 250/500/100 Liability coverage would pay up to $250,000 in BI per individual, $500,000 worth of BI per vehicle, and $100,000 in PD per vehicle.

Continue reading more about the most cost-effective ways to protect yourself and your family from liability for accidents behind the wheel.(Please scroll down.)

For a complimentary review of your policy, call or email Nicole Brunt, or any of our other Personal Lines Account Managers today!

CURBING CORPORATE IDENTITY THEFT:

A THREE-STEP APPROACH

In the controversial Citizens United case, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations have rights similar to those of an individual. It follows that they have identities and are vulnerable to identity theft.

Although insurance offers one way to manage this risk, it might well be a long time before a company discovers the theft -- at which point, it would be too late. To avoid or minimize the danger of having your corporate identity stolen, we'd recommend that you review this beneficial three-step approach. (Please scroll down.)

To answer any of your questions regarding curbing identity theft for your business, please call or email Ann Hebert, or any of our Commercial Account Managers today. You will be glad you did!

Employees interested in participating donate a dollar on Fridays, if they  choose to  wear  jeans.

Our  most recent featured community  partners are the Got Lunch Program,   to benefit Inter-Lakes School Students, the Meredith Food Pantry, and the
Inter-Lakes Christmas Fund.
