ARE YOU READY FOR THE 2013 WINTER
RAINY SEASON?

Were you aware that nearly 20% of Flood Insurance Claims come from Moderate to Low-Risk Areas?

The winter rainy months bring all kinds of wet and snowy weather, and they also bring conditions such as heavy rains, ice jams and rapid  snow melt, followed by the spring thaw that can increase your flood risk. Flood insurance will help you financially protect your property from these weather events
.

Flooding can happen anywhere, but certain areas are especially prone to serious flooding. Learn more about your own flood risk in this helpful article:

And, after getting flood insurance, please be aware that there are
several things you can  do
in order to minimize the losses
in your home and ensure your family's safety.

 THE 10TH ANNUAL TODD'S TROT ROAD RACE/WALK

(Please Join Us!)

At Cross Insurance, our goal is
to help support as many local  non-profit organizations as we can, as we are proud to give back to the  community that supports us. Our team of coworkers has decided to participate in Casual Attire Day, where we  choose  a local non-profit community  partner that we will assist each month. Employees interested in participating donate a dollar on Fridays, if they  choose to  wear  jeans, and then a new recipient is chosen for the following month.

Our  most recent featured community  partner is the 10th Annual Todd's Trot Road Race Run/Walk, that will take place this  year 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6th, at the Oyster River High School in Durham. This family oriented event garners nearly seven-hundred  entries per year, drawing a broad spectrum of participants from  elite runners  to 'weekend warriors'  and walkers  of all kinds.  For  many children,  this is their first competitive race event, and numerous kid-friendly door prizes provide for many happy returns.

The road race/walk  is  held  annually  in memory of Peter "Todd" Heuchling , and is sponsored  in  part  by Cross Insurance. Todd was a standout student-athlete and 2002 graduate of Oyster River High School, who went on to attend the United States Military Academy.  Only nineteen, Todd passed away suddenly and tragically from heat stroke while competing with the West Point Marathon Team in the summer of 2003.

Friends of Oyster River Track (FORT) has been organizing and coordinating this event for the past nine years.  It is a 501(C)3 organization, which promotes physical fitness through running and other forms of exercise. Proceeds  from  the  race  fund  a $5,000 scholarship that is awarded to a high school senior.

The Peter "Todd" Heuchling  Memorial  Scholarship  is presented each spring during graduation ceremonies at the Oyster River High School.  Scholarship  candidates  must demonstrate characteristics of high integrity,  athletic participation, strong academic standing, service to country and/or service to others. To register, donate or to learn more, please visit the Todd's Trot website.

GUNS, HOMEOWNERS, AND INSURANCE

Although gun control remains a controversial issue, when it comes to insuring firearms, Homeowners coverage offers some clear guidelines.

If you have rifles and pistols in your home, your policy will usually insure them against fire damage or theft, typically up to $2,500.

Please read on to make sure that you are fully informed about insuring firearms under your Homeowners policy. To answer any further questions about firearms coverage in your home, be sure to call or email Nancy Nelms or any of our Personal Lines trusted advisors today!

AUDIT? WHAT AUDIT?

Whenever you're asked to bid on a job, you're usually required to certify that the price is firm and that there won't be any unexpected expenses and cost overruns once the project is underway. Because this is standard practice in the industry, it's understandable that some contractors are surprised that their insurance costs don't operate the same way -- especially when the contractor has asked agents for "bids" on the insurance package.

Read on to learn more about how your insurance works or how premiums are calculated. To answer any further questions, call or email  Tim Weddleton, our Commercial Specialist, or any of our Commercial Account Managers today. They're here to help!

That goes for everyone from office personnel to adjusters to whomever happens to answer the phone.  And, the fact that we've saved quite a bit is  most appreciated in these poor economic times! Thank you all, and keep up the good work! God bless you." ~Barbara and William Cashman, Somersworth, NH.

Hi Nancy (Nelms): Thank you for the explanation about the documentation! That's what I figured. You can quote me, how about it you just call me Pat H. It's been a pleasure working with you too!"
