Looking Toward Sunday
March 6, 2016- 4th Sunday in Lent

Sermon: Mind your Ps and Qs
Scripture Lessons: Isaiah 62: 10-12
Colossians 3: 12-17

Mary Margaret Porter will preach at 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. in Lingle Chapel and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Colossians 3:12 calls us to "clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience." Sometimes this feels like putting on a winter coat in the middle of July - uncomfortable and burdensome. How can we individually and as a community transform such that these garments become not only something we put on and take of, but like a second skin - permanent and comfortable? This week we will spend some time thinking of the ways in which our lives of faith and our lives in community have been transformed in Christ and what results from that radical transformation.

The Geneva Choir will sing With Broken Heart and Contrite Sigh at the 8:30 service.
The Chancel Choir will sing To Thy Heavenly Banquet at the 11:00 service.

Ten Cents a Meal Offering will be received at all worship services this Sunday. Please place your donations in the red baskets. If each family at DCPC contributed 30 a day each day for 30 days, that would equal $9 per month.

NAME TAGS-The Membership Ministry of Hospitality continues at DCPC. Friendly Greeters are present at each door as you enter worship. Two purposes they accomplish are to welcome visitors and to greet current members. Wearing your DCPC Name Tag helps all of us know the congregation and greet one another. Fellowship begins when we are greeted by Name. If you do not have a DCPC Name Tag, need to replace or get your first one, please stop by a Name Tag Table. Sign-up sheets will be outside the sanctuary and Chapel at each service on this Sunday, March 6.  If you HAVE a name tag but cannot find it.....and you are pretty sure you left it at church, please come and check the newly renovated Name Tag Cabinets (both of them) in the Narthex of the Sanctuary.  LOTS of name tags have been re-placed in these cabinets in alphabetical order.

Pastor/Head of Staff on Sabbatical
Pastor/Head of Staff Lib McGregor Simmons is on sabbatical leave January 26-March 14.

Youth

We are in the middle of two new series in Youth Group this afternoon! First is The Talk for Middle School. Last week talked about how, because God created sex, it is good. It's also powerful because it makes two people into one. Because of this we need a healthy respect for sex so this week we're going to take a look at how we do that in the realm of technology. In High School we're talking about being Dateable. Last week we discussed the idea that why we date will influence how we date and the best advice for how is to love our neighbors as ourselves. But being dateable isn't much good if you can't find the right person to date, and that's where we'll land this week.

Lent
This year Davidson College Presbyterian Church will be journeying through Lent using the theme "Be Holy" to guide our prayer, study, and worship time. We will together discover what it means to be a people 'set apart' and how we might realize our 'Holy identity' in Christ. We encourage you to gather with others for a weekly devotional using our weekly study emailed each Sunday. These may also be found on the church website (CLICK HERE).
Presbyterian Women Birthday Luncheon

Traditionally, Presbyterian Women celebrate each spring with a Birthday Brunch and collect the Birthday offering suggested to be a certain amount for the givers age.  This money is sent to recipients selected by the national organization. In looking at the cost in time and money of the brunch, PW decided to focus on supporting the work of the church... not food and to divide the offering between the
Birthday offering and the
Habitat Wildcat Build
. PW will be collecting these offerings at the March and April circle meetings and the April fellowship dinner. The cost of the brunch will be donated to these causes.

For our Lifetime Membership Award this year, PW would like to celebrate the behind the scenes womanpower and manpower that contribute to the mission of our church...the bread bakers, flower arrangers, artists, woodworkers, teachers, singers, silver polishers, soup makers, painters, cleaners, organizers, mission teams, financial teams and committee members and officers. PW thanks them and encourages you to thank them as well.
