Looking Toward Sunday
February 7, 2016- Transfiguration of the Lord
Scout Sunday

Sermon: Unveiled

Scripture - Exodus 34: 29-35
                  2 Corinthians 3: 12-18

Robert Alexander will preach at 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. in Lingle Chapel and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

This Sunday we remember the Transfiguration of the Lord and consider what it means for us to be transformed little by little, "from one degree of glory to another" into the image of God.  Just as Christ displayed the fullness of God's glory, so are we, as children of God, being transformed into his likeness.  As we prepare to enter the season of Lent, we draw near to God and open ourselves to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit through the Holy Scriptures and through the Living Word of God that is Jesus Christ. As we gather at the table this Sunday, we do so unveiled and fully open to God, to one another, and to the world.
This Sunday we celebrate Scout Sunday and welcome scouts who will help lead our worship.  We also receive the Souper Bowl of Caring offering which goes towards our 10 cents a meal collections to help end hunger in our communities.

The Geneva Choir will sing Jesus Christ the Apple Tree at the 8:30 service.
The Chancel Choir will sing Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace at the 11:00 service.

Scout Sunday at DCPC! A Scout is Reverent! This Sunday we celebrate Scout Sunday. The Scouts will also be assisting the Youth team to collect food and money for the Souper Bowl of Caring at the end of each service.

THANK YOU!
Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who helped to make our last blood drive on Feb. 1 a big success.  The DCPC family was praised for their warm and welcoming hospitality and as always their famous yummy treats!  We collected 54 units of blood, which can be used to give up to 162 people another chance at life.  Thank you again for your dedication and commitment to serving others in need.
Organ at Davidson
Organ at Davidson presents Jane Cain on February 8 at 7:30 pm. The program is capped by a "Mardi Gras surprise." Because the day after the performance (Tuesday) is Mardi Gras, and the opera "Aida" was composed weeks before Rex Krewe was established in 1871 and performed in New Orleans eight years later, the King of Carnival processes into the Royal Ball on Mardi Gras night to Aida's Triumphal March (as well as one of his own). Arranged for the organ, that famous and thrilling Triumphal March will cap a special evening program that includes works by Bruhns, Bach, Vierne and Sandresky, whose "L'Homme Arme" comes from her organ mass on the 15th century popular tune of the same name. The program is free, followed by a meet-the-artist reception. Donations for future programs are welcomed.

Lent
The season of Lent begins February 10th with the celebration of Ash Wednesday.  You are invited to an Ash Wednesday Worship Service at 7 p.m. in the DCPC Sanctuary on that day.  Members of our 2015-2016 Confirmation Class will help lead in worship that evening.  The service will be an opportunity to commit ourselves to the Lenten disciplines of prayer and the study of scripture as we consider the call to "Be Holy."  We will also receive the imposition of ashes at this service as we remember our own frailty and mortality as beings created from the earth who are utterly dependent upon God's grace and love.

Daily devotions written by the Reverend Brian Coulter entitled "Be Holy" have been purchased for the congregation to use during Lent.  You may pick up your copy at the Ash Wednesday service, at the Church Information Center, or in the church office. If you receive Presbyterian's Today, you may already have a copy which was included in the most recent subscription.

You are also encouraged to gather in groups during this season for prayer and reflection.  A weekly study will be emailed each Sunday evening for your use in personal devotion or in a group setting.  These studies, in most cases, will focus on the scripture that will be read the following Sunday in worship.

We hope you will be intentional in this season of Lent in your reflection on God's call to all of us to "Be Holy."
