Our Voice

A Letter From the CEO

Hello Friends,

We are acutely aware of how critical a reliable car can be, during a weather event such as Sandy, and hope all of you and your loved ones are safe, well, and warm.  Now we hope for an opportunity to enjoy the usually beautiful fall weather full of brilliant fall colors, pumpkins and cider.  Fall can be a delightful time of year in New England, although I am always a bit sad to see summer go knowing what is in front of us for winter.

We have a great newsletter for you - stories about launches in Plymouth, Worcester and Marlborough.  Be sure that you pay special attention to the educational opportunities related to the use of tax refunds and how they can lead to the purchase of a reliable vehicle with our help.

We are really proud of the 115 individuals who have enrolled in the More Than Wheels program since our last newsletter, and of course of the 82 people who got their car loans since we last spoke!  Congratulations to all, please feel free to let me know directly what putting in the hard work and getting that car means for you and your family, I can be reached at terristeingrebe@morethanwheels.org

Making Moves In Marlborough, MA
Now That Our Services are Available in Marlborough,
People Can't Stop Talking About Us!

On October 10th, we were present at a press conference to announce More Than Wheels' expansion into Marlborough, Massachusetts. We have been working hard on making our services easily accessible to individuals all over New England.  This has proved to be a challenging task especially as we are trying to help those in need of reliable transportation, but through determination and a lot of help from our partners we have been making great strides! This growth was made possible through partnerships with local agencies, such as Employment Options, The Marlborough Community Development Corp., the Worcester Community Action Council, the Oak Hill Community Development Corp., and the Salvation Army of Central Massachusetts.

Lakes Region Here We Come
Partnership with Whole Family  Resource Center

On October 18th, a new partnership between  Lakes Region United Way/Whole Village Family Resource Center and More Than Wheels was announced!

We were joined at Whole Village by the community in Plymouth, NH to discuss how our partnership would provide a solution the transportation issues in the Lakes Region.  This new formed alliance means that residents of the surrounding communities will now be able to access our car-buying and financial stability services at the convenient  location of the Whole Village Family Resource Center.

For many, this partnership  will not only help them get into a reliable, fuel-efficient car for best price and lowest interest rate, but also impact many other aspects of their lives.  Having a car determines whether individuals can train for a job, take their child to the doctor, go grocery shopping, get to school, and advance in a career. We are excited help make a lasting change in the lives of many and extremely thankful for our partners at the Lakes Region United Way/Whole Village Family Resource Center for making it possible!

Wheels in Worcester
Partnership with Worcester Community Action Council

We have been working with Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) for nearly a year now in order to establish a wonderful partnership that will make it easy and convenient for Worcester residents to access More Than Wheels.  We have already had clients graduate from our program from the Worcester area, but the demand was growing and our closest office was in Boston, an hour drive for individuals had their own car. It was clear that we needed a better way to help those in Worcester.  A partial solution came when we were able to use technology to make our program available to anyone from their home as long as they had an internet connection and computer with a webcam, but what about the individuals who didn't have that luxury?

For those in Worcester the answer came in the form of the WCAC. The partnership seemed natural as the WCAC's mission is helping people move to economic self-sufficieny through programs, partnerships, and advocacy. Not only has the WCAC offered a private space for people to connect with More Than Wheels in, but the other programs hey offer can serve as an entire support system for all kinds of needs! We are extremely grateful for this partnership and looking forward to see how many more people we will be able to help together.
