Undisclosed Synthetics Threaten Consumer Confidence
Recent reports of undisclosed synthetic diamonds mixed in with natural stones highlight the need for proper identification and disclosure of lab-grown diamonds at all levels of the jewelry supply chain. Failure to do so could undermine consumer confidence in natural diamonds. Jewelers of America recently met with other industry groups to discuss ideas on how to ensure the diamond pipeline is untarnished by undisclosed lab-grown stones or diamond simulants. JA will monitor the situation and provide timely updates to members as needed. JA Members can review JA's information on Synthetic Diamonds in the Responsible Business section of www.jewelers.org.

Demonstrate your jewelry sales and/or management experience by completing JA Professional Certifications. You can take exams onsite at the JA New York Winter Show and the SMART Jewelry Show in Chicago. Register early and save $10!

Why Jewelers Should Say "Ciao" to VicenzaOro
by Matthew Tratner, JA Director of Membership & Sales

When you think of Italy, you think of great food, great wine and amazing landscapes. All of that is true. I would add one more thing to that list. If you are a JA Member retail jeweler in the U.S. and you think of Italy, you should think of the VicenzaOro Fair. After I attended the VicenzaOro Winter Fair this January as the head of a small delegation of JA Retail Members, I am convinced that every jewelry retailer should attend this show.

- today's trends and trend forecasting in order to understand the messages and aesthetics that will resonate in the evolving marketplace.
- consumer confidence issues, ethical sourcing, with discussions of implementing due diligence for Dodd-Frank and a panel devoted to Fairmined and ethically sourced gold.
