Stronger Together
Hundreds of parents and community leaders chart the course toward closing Boulder County's Early Learning Achievement gap.

One year ago, dozens of leaders from our local education, business, civic and faith sectors gathered with a common concern: Too many children were falling into our early learning achievement gap.

We formed a task force and drafted a Community Solutions Action Plan in support of one visionary and unifying goal: 90% of Boulder County's 3rd-graders will read at grade-level by 3rd grade, by 2016.

Today more than 300 community members - more than half of them Latino parents - are engaged in this effort, and more are joining the conversation every week.

Colorado Business Reads Returns

Boulder County Book Drive Begins April 1

This spring, Boulder County businesses again have the opportunity to partner with Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) and Lt. Governor Joe Garcia's office to host Colorado Business Reads 2014, a statewide book drive which provides thousands of free books to Colorado children and families. All donated books stay in the County and go to families most in need of in-home libraries.

Being a Colorado Business Reads collection site is EASY!

  1. Once you sign up to be a collection site, you will begin receiving weekly email updates about the project.
  2. Before April 1st, your local coordinator will bring you the donation box and all related marketing materials.
  3. After April 30th, your local coordinator will pick up all donated books (along with the donation box, if necessary) and ensure that the books are properly distributed in your community.

To sign up to become a collection site send an email to:

Impact on Education Expands Programs

Summer Program Aimed at Stopping Summer Slide

The Summer Shuffle Literacy Program, which was piloted at one site in the summer of 2013, will expand to four sites in 2014! This program targets a phenomenon called the  "summer slide,' in which students lose proficiency in math and reading over the summer and brings bi-lingual teachers from Columbine Elementary School, University Hill Elementary School and Foothill Elementary School to four Boulder Housing Partners housing sites.
