Can you believe it? TeethFirst! launched a year ago! To celebrate our one year anniversary, here's a look back at some highlights since we started:
|
1) TeethFirst! is now on social media! Find us and let's connect on Twitter and Facebook.
2) TeethFirst! launched our bilingual Tooth Talk blog, which is regularly updated with new postings. Our blog is another way for parents & families, community organizations, dental providers, and health care providers to learn about and share their experiences with early dental visits and oral health care for our littlest Rhode Islanders. Tooth Talk posts about teething, healthy brushing habits, pacifier use, healthy snacks, preparing for dental visits, oral health literacy, USPFTF Recommendations, and more are available at the Tooth Talk Blog. Check them out at www.teethfirstri.org/blog. 3) New TeethFirst! webpages have been added about:
4) Printable PDFs of our resources are available, including:
 5) TeethFirst! partnered with Reach Out and Read Rhode Island (RORRI) during Children's Dental Health Month in February to donate 4,500 copies of the Usborne Book "Going to the Dentist" to families during well child visits at primary care offices throughout the state. Read more about this special project on our blog here.
TeethFirst! also distributed copies of "Going to the Dentist" in the following ways:
- In June, we donated two copies of the book to 68 public libraries around the state.
- In July, we mailed three copies of the book to approximately 65 pediatric dentists and general dentists serving young children in RI for use in their practice.
- In late August, we donated two copies and other TeethFirst! resources to 8 Head Start locations and approximately 70 child care centers located in Central Falls, Cranston, Newport, Pawtucket, Providence, West Warwick, and Woonsocket (RI's largest cities).
6) TeethFirst! co-sponsored the 2014 Pediatric Dentistry Mini-Residency. The Mini-Residency, co-sponsored by the RI Department of Health and TeethFirst!, with generous funding from UnitedHealthcare Dental, was a sell-out, with 150 dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants in attendance. Topics covered included Behavior Guidance for the Pediatric Dental Patient, Pediatric Restorative Dentistry, and Common Oral Pathology and Developmental Anomalies in Children.
Dental providers have also built their skills and comfort levels in treating young children at the TeethFirst! Academy. This professional development opportunity contains a didactic component, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and personalized technical assistance; and is available for free, upon request through 2014. For more information, please contact Maureen Ross, RDH, BS, at mross@CharterCARE.org or (401) 456-4038.
TeethFirst! thanks all of our community partners who are putting Rhode Island's children on a path to healthy smiles for a lifetime. We look forward to working with you in the years to come! |
