New Paid Family Leave Program
|
As of January 5, 2014, the new Rhode Island Temporary Caregivers Insurance Program (TCI) provides up to four weeks of benefits for workers who need to care for a seriously ill family member or to bond with a newborn, foster, or adopted child.
TCI may be claimed by both parents (but must be claimed during the first 12 months of parenting) and is available in addition to short-term disability leave. TCI should make it easier for families, particularly those with low wage jobs, to take time off work to care for a new child or deal with a major family health crisis. Research indicates that family leave improves outcomes for children and families.
Managed by the RI Department of Labor and Training (DLT), TCI is available to Rhode Island workers who have paid into the Temporary Disability Insurance benefit. For more information, please see DLT's:
You may also contact DLT at 401.462.8420.
