Summertime is really a treat at Village Candy. We get to see all the young children coming by to find Waldo (if you don't know about this fun entertainment for kids, check it out at Penguin Bookshop). Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy students satisfy their sweet tooths (teeth?) throughout the day, instead of piling in all at once after the last school bell. Different ages of YMCA campers from up the street visit en masse on field trips. And lots of out-of-towners stop by, either while visiting family and friends, or just passing through. That's how we greatfully found out we were listed as an attraction on roadtrippers.com, which is actually a very useful site and app if you're not acquainted with it! It's nice to be considered a gathering place for all our wonderful customers.
Project 7
No, not a government experiment

Project 7 Gum

Project 7 is a specialty gum and mint brand dedicated to bringing great flavor back into your day while at the same time giving back to 7 areas of need, as reflected in each of their flavors.

"Teach Them Well" Front Porch Lemonade sales helps provide daily school education in developing nations. "House the Homeless" Coconut Lime provides credit towards shelter for someone in need. "Clean Water" Mint Julep provides one month of clean water. "Hope for Peace" Birthday Cake gives towards anti-bullying efforts in the U.S. They all taste great, are made in the U.S., and are now available at Village Candy.

New From Smarties
They're Finally Branching Out

Smarties 'N Creme
Two new Smarties candies have arrived! Smarties 'n Cream, from Smarties Candy Company, are mega-sized, two-toned tablets loaded with tangy fruit flavors like Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Peach and Orange, each topped with a dairy-free creme.

Smarties Squeeze
Also just in: Smarties Squeeze, a tube of liquid candy with the distinctive flavor of Smarties candy in a fun gooey liquid form, from Ford Gum.

Now for your history lesson: After World War I, the Dee family bought gunpowder pellet machines and repurposed them to make candy. This gave the candy its resemblance to tablet-style pills in shape and texture. Ce De Candy Company was formed.

In 2011, Ce De changed its name to Smarties Candy Company. That same year in August, amid customer inquiries about the candy, Liz Dee, co-owner of the company, "discovered that Smarties were vegan."  All Smarties candies are also gluten free and nut free.

Each original Smarties pack of 15 (good trivia answer) tablets contains an assortment of pastel colors, including white (orange cream), yellow (pineapple), pink (cherry), green (strawberry?), purple (grape), and orange (d-oh, orange). Smarties Candy Company also produces (and Village Candy stocks) "X-treme sour" and "tropical" varieties.
Summer Vacation!
Time For a Little R&R

Walley World

Chiller Theater
A report on all things sodarific: what's new in the fridge, tastings and interesting tidbits from the world of bottled effervescence.

A huge shipment of pops should be arriving any day now. Along with the return of Leninade and Ale8One, we will, as always, be stocking some new and exciting beverages hitherto unknown in these parts. A few of the more notable bubblies:

Borgnine's Coffee Soda Borgnine's Coffee SodaIn the late 90s, Borgnine's Coffee Soda was created and enjoyed all around the world, from Hollywood parties, to lunches at the Pentagon and across the ocean in Japan. Now Nancee Borgnine has recreated this delicious, rich and refreshing, one-of-a-kind coffee soda in loving memory of her father, Academy Award-winning actor Ernest Borgnine (Marty, From Here to Eternity, McHale's Navy). It's brewed with rich Italian roast coffee and is all natural, has no artificial flavors or color, no preservatives, and is sweetened with raw cane sugar. It's delicious straight from the bottle, over ice cream or mixed with your favorite liquor.

Fest Pecan Root Beer Fest Pecan Root Beer/Papa Joe - This new brew from Fest Cola,
has distinct pecan and praline notes that add a degree of complexity and originality to this naturally flavored root beer, sweetened with real Louisiana cane sugar. While root beer originally gained popularity during prohibition, Fest's unique recipe was inspired by and named for King Joe Oliver, jazz pioneer from the brothels and bars of New Orleans. Also coming from Fest is Bourbon Cream Soda and Almond Cola. According to Fest, "our signature craft sodas deliver authentic New Orleans Flavor in every sip. So stop gulping down cheap, boring high-fruct-up sodas from big corporations."

St. John's Brewers Ginger Beer St. John Brewers Ginger BeerA well-balanced take on the classic Caribbean beverage, this Ginger Beer features spicy ginger notes with a sweet balance. The recipe was perfected over the past four years at St. John Brewers' on-site brewery at the Mongoose Junction pub, The Tap Room.

It's a recipe that The Tap Room has been brewing in small batches for the past four years. Because of its popularity at the Tap Room, where they've been serving it on draft, they decided it was time to bottle it and release it to the larger market of the Virgin Islands and slightly beyond ;).

Village Candy is an old-time, new-fangled retail shop specializing in a unique selection of retro and current bulk and novelty candy, artisan chocolates, glass-bottled pop and candy-themed gifts. Oh, and remember customer service? It's back!

We are here Tuesday thru Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, but on Wednesday we stay late until 8! We are closed Sunday and Monday.

Sincerely,
Signature
