Father's Day is coming upon us rapidly (June 21). It has certainly never gained the same importance as the other parent day, but it deserves its own respect nonetheless. And what's wrong with celebrating dads?

A customer came in one time and explained that they didn't celebrate Mother's Day in their family - love and respect should be given every day. We can totally understand that opinion, but is there anything wrong with both? We should respect our fallen soldiers all year, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take Memorial Day and set it aside to give a little more pause and emphasis.

The first observance of a "Father's Day" was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia, but it was a local church event honoring 250 fathers killed in a nearby mining disaster. Early attempts to make it a national holiday were resisted, fearing that it would become commercialized. It wasn't until 1966 that President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.

So prove all those naysayers wrong and go out and buy your dad a truckload of presents!

Tart N Tinys

Tart N Tinys look like pastel-colored pencil erasers and have the consistency of Smarties. Originally made by Wonka, they were popular in the 70s and 80s, before having a glossy coating added and shortly thereafter being discontinued. And now they're back and delicious as ever! They come in five colors/flavors, just like the good ol' days: purple (grape), yellow (lemon), orange (duh), red (cherry) and green (lime). We have them by the pound or in small sealed bags.

Champagne Beans

Jelly Belly Bubbly Bottles
Jelly Belly has an incredibly creative team. Think of the Bean Boozled flavors - who tastes and then recreates "moldy cheese" in a bean? On the flip side, has there ever been a flavor as spot on as Juicy Pear? Now they've come up with tiny Champagne bottles filled with pretty iridescent Champagne beans! They have all the flavor of a glass of bubbly, with none of the alcohol. They're perfect for wedding favors, swag bags, pillow treats or AA reunions.

Cola Tasting Tally

Village Candy's Cola Tasting 2015 took place Saturday, April 25, and all attendees enjoyed the delicious diversity. At least that's what they indicated while gurgling. The bottles above represent the offerings in the order in which they were served, and their respective sizes represent the voted Voss Sparkling Waterfavorites. The Pepsi was challenged, but Swamp Pop Noble Cane Cola was the surprise (and overwhelming) winner. And as a thank you for participating, Eric Werner wins a 4 pack of the winning cola, drawn at random from the submitted ballots. Thanks to everyone for making it another successful event!

Voss Artesian Sparkling Water from Norway is a new addition to our beverage lineup. Voss is bottled at an artesian source in southern Norway, producing a refreshing, naturally pure, sparkling water. It's available in store in a signature nine inch tall, 375 ml clear bottle.
Village Candy is an old-time, new-fangled retail shop specializing in a unique selection of retro and current bulk and novelty candy, artisan chocolates, glass-bottled pop and candy-themed gifts. Oh, and remember customer service? It's back!

We are here Tuesday thru Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, but on Wednesday we stay late until 8! We are closed Sunday and Monday.

Sincerely,
