The candy corn has been harvested, and the pumpkins are near, but this is NOT the Halloween Edition. It's Back to School, Harvest Festival, Autumn Leaves, and all that rolled into one.

There's no reason to get melancholy just because summer has left the station. Village Candy has new items arriving weekly, and there are so many exciting things since our last newsletter that we couldn't even capture them all in this newsletter. We might be able to spread them over this and the next newsletter edition, but we'll be getting even more in then!

I'm sure you'll agree, after surveying everything that follows, that our candy and soda offerings have never been better!

New gummi characters - chew on that!

Super Mario Gummies
These 3D gummies, featuring the classic Nintendo characters of Mario, Yoshi, Donkey and Diddy Kong, offer unbelievable detail front to back. They arrive just ahead of blockbuster video game Super Smash Bros.' release for Nintendo video gaming platforms. They come in strawberry, watermelon, orange and mixed berries, and contain 25% real fruit juice! That qualifies as a health food, doesn't it? They're available at Village Candy in a 1.6 ounce bag, but once you taste them, you'll want to load up since they're also available By-The-Pound!

Hello Kitty Gummies Hello Kitty (full name: Kitty White) was created 40 years ago "to inspire happiness, friendship, and sharing across the world." She made a HUGE splash last month when her company founder, Sanrio, revealed that she is, in fact, a human girl, and not a cat.

This delicious new candy comes in two gummi shapes: Hello Kitty's head and Hello Kitty holding a strawberry, and includes a fruity mix of flavors: strawberry, orange and lemon. Since her first appearance on a coin purse in 1974, she has become a global phenomenon (to the tune of $7 billion a year) and friend to millions. Happy 40th Anniversary, Hello Kitty! As Hello Kitty always says, "You can never have too many friends."

Trivia moment: Thai police officers who have committed minor infractions (as of July 2007), such as showing up late or parking in the wrong place, are forced to wear pink Hello Kitty armbands for several days as penance.
Gilliam Old Fashioned Drops
Just like the good ol' days

Cleve Gilliam established the Gilliam Candy Company in Paducah, KY in 1927, when they were well known for their famously delicious candy sticks. In recent years, they've add the retro candies Kits, BB Bats, Slo Pokes and Sofie Mae Candies (which date back to 1884) to their lineup. Village Candy now offers bags of Gilliam's hard candy drops that harken back to the company's roots. They taste like just-picked fruit, are sanded in the old fashioned way, and come in lemon, cherry and the watermelon pictured.

Definitely worth mentioning

Pez Gift Sets
Pez Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary Gift Set

This Hello Kitty Tin is shaped like Hello Kitty's head. The tin includes full body pez of Hello Kitty, sister Mimi, Mama Mary and Papa George. This is a "fantastic" gift tin and it comes with a vinyl 'leather'-like carry strap and hinged lid, complete with a locking closure.

Pez Angry Birds Gift SetThe Angry Birds Pez gift tin includes Red Bird, Black Bird, Green Pig and Stella, the Pink Bird. This set was originally released in Europe, and has finally come to America in gift tins shaped like Red Bird's head. The front of the tin has a window for viewing and the back looks like Red Bird.
Pez Scooby Doo Gift Set

This Scooby Doo Gift Set is one of our very favorites. The box looks like the "Mystery Machine" and includes the 4 animated characters Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy along with the Great Dane Scooby Doo. The Scooby set has been a Pez fan's fantasy for years, and the Pez Co. has finally come through.
Chiller Theater
A report on all things sodarific: what's new in the fridge, tastings and interesting tidbits from the world of bottled effervescence.

Polar Root BeerVillage Candy is always finding new sodas to sample, and one of this month's discoveries is Polar Classics Root Beer. Polar Beverages is a fourth-generation, family-owned business that traces its Wooster, MA roots back to 1882. Our friends at Thirsty Dudes say it's "a surprisingly dark root beer with a huge head on it (due to the addition of quiaia extract). It has a nice vanilla flavor, and you can taste bits of caramel in the aftertaste."

Old Dominion Root BeerAlso new to Village Candy is Dominion Root Beer. Fordham Brewing began in the old Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD in 1995, and was named in honor of Benjamin Fordham, who was given a charter in 1703 by Queen Anne to establish a brewery there. Shortly before that, in 1989, Old Dominion Brewing established a brewpub in Ashburn, VA, and was quickly named one of the top 50 breweries in the U.S. Both Fordham AND Dominion joined forces in Dover, DE in 2007, and produce this delicious root beer that Bevnet calls "a good quality brewery-style root beer that features a handcrafted flavor and appearance."
And One More Thing...
Son of a gun - we've come to the end of Candy Alphabet

The second time through the alphabet has wrapped up! Anyone have any good ideas for another fun game to make us wrack our brains for clues every month? Send in your ideas to candyalphabet@villagecandy.com.

Zotz
Last Alphabet's correct answer was Zotz, and was submitted by Vicki Buck. Stop in for your prize before the end of the month. It may not last long after that...

ZotZ is a candy with a fizzy, sour center currently imported from G.B. Ambrosolo in Ronago, Italy. It's a hard candy containing a sour powder that, when dissolving, reacts with saliva to produce carbon dioxide bubbles and a fizzing sensation. ZotZ flavors include apple, cherry, strawberry, watermelon, grape and orange. Lemon was replaced by a new blue raspberry in 2012. ZotZ were introduced in 1968. And guess where you can all flavors?

Village Candy is an old-time, new-fangled retail shop specializing in a unique selection of retro and current bulk and novelty candy, artisan chocolates, glass-bottled pop and candy-themed gifts. Oh, and remember customer service? It's back!

We are here Tuesday thru Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, but on Wednesday we stay late until 8! We are closed Sunday and Monday.

Sincerely,
