Village Candy's 5th Annual Root Beer Tasting has come and gone, as have so many before (well, actually, 4). But many other events have blown by too. When our very first customer (and, coincidentally, first employee) graduates from college this weekend, it makes us reflect on what impact we have on the lives of some of our clientele. We've seen many school kids come through during our eight years here, and as schedules change, so does the kid mix. Every now and then a college student or graduate will come back in and tell us about their memories of how great it was spending time here after school. The same type of warm memory many of us have from our childhood, and the nice feeling that seems to be more rare in today's fast-paced world. Just a small service we cheerfully provide and never take for granted.

Village Candy to be Closed
Just this Friday and Saturday
Village Candy will be closed this Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, in order to attend a joyous event. We here at Village Candy are all proud beyond words of the graduation of former employee (and former Chief Taste Tester) Elliot Alpern from the University of Michigan! It is now time to set the world on fire, and no one is more capable.

Mothers Make the World Whole
Don't Forget the Women in Your Life
Sunday, May 11, is Mother's Day. Do NOT forget to honor her - your mother, wife, grandmother, nanny, or anyone that is deserving of this honor. Candy is a great choice, because it's something almost universally loved by mothers everywhere.
Village Candy has a wide array of chocolates that offer something for everyone. Or one of our Big Retro Candy Collections, or an incredible Jelly Belly box. But if not candy, just honor them with something. They do so much, and are so often unheralded and underappreciated. This is your day to rectify that - don't let it slip.

Some Things New
Shaking It Up
The Cup Just Got Crunchy! The classic "Geese's" Peanut Butter Cup was missing something...until now. The combination of creamy milk chocolate, smooth peanut butter and the perfect dose of Butterfinger has taken the cup to a whole 'nother level.
Birthday Cake M&M's is the newest flavor addition to the bite-size candy's catalogue. Delicious milk chocolate infused with birthday cake flavor creates an exciting new treat worth celebrating.

These new M&M Megas, containing three times the chocolate of regular M&M's, are about the size of a nickel, and come in the now classic red, green, yellow, brown, orange and blue.

Chiller Theater
A report on all things sodarific: what's new in the fridge, tastings and interesting tidbits from the world of bottled effervescence.
Village Candy's 5th Annual Root Beer Tasting, this past Saturday, was a resounding success. We had over 50 salivating participants, and they all seemed to be having a great time. At least that's what they said in order to get free beverages and snacks. The bottles above represent the offerings in the order in which they were served, and their respective sizes represent the voted favorites. The winner for participating, drawn at random (we swear) from all the submitted ballots, is Michael Bett. Come in within the month of May to pick up your Barrel Brothers 4-pack. And thanks to everyone for making it another successful event! To celebrate, come in during May and mention this newsletter, and get 20% off the top two faves - Barrel Brothers and/or Dang Butterscotch! |

And One More Thing...
Son of Candy Alphabet
OU can't think of any "Y" candies either, besides York! We came up with a candy name that has a "y" IN it, and you should be able to recognize it. NOT THAT HARD!
Send your guess in an email to candyalphabet@villagecandy.com. We'll put all the names from the winning submissions on the petals of a fresh rose from Mother's Day, and the last one to fall, after we forget to water it, wins!
Last Alphabet's correct answer was Hotlix, and was submitted by
Steve Marchitelli. Your prize will be waiting for you - just make sure you pick it up before the end of the month, right after we figure out what it is. Hah!
HOTLIX is one of Village Candy's more "out there" candy creators. They've made their name "candifying" insects. They've been in business for over 25 years, are based in California (maybe that explains it), and their "products are handmade fresh daily." Village Candy offers Hotlix scorpion, ant and worm lollipops, chocolate covered ants, and crispy larvettes and crick-ettes. They are all made from real insects and are completely (and safely) edible. Maybe they're ahead of their time.
