Understanding Melanin and Hyperpigmentation
Melanin is a natural pigment compound produced by very special cells in the skin called "melanocytes". The melanocytes "inject" packages of melanin (melanosomes) into the surrounding skin cells and tissues by special connecting tentacle-like bridges called "dendrites".
