Greetings!

It is in June that Spring will officially turn into Summer - scientifically (the Solstice) on June 21 - even though most of us think of it as starting on Memorial Day!  Yet, either way, even as the Summer only just begins, the end of June will mark another milestone - the halfway point of the calendar year!  We wish you all a healthy and fun Summer - with sunblock, as always, of course!

Is Melanoma Increasing Among Young Adults?
You would think that with all the focus on sunblocks and sun protection over the past few years, plastic surgeons and dermatologists would see less and less sun exposure-related skin cancers. But there are some signs that the most dreaded sun-linked skin cancer of them all, melanoma, is actually increasing in incidence among young adults, and especially so in women! A recent Mayo Clinic study of melanoma rates over the past 40 years revealed an 8 fold increase in melanoma for women age 18 - 39, as well as a 4 fold increase for men within the same age range. Why the increase? No one is really sure at this point. Just keep on protecting you and your loved ones every summer. Enjoy the shore - but please - use your sunblock!
