Accountability by Numbers for your Sales Team
A 30-Day End of Summer Challenge

By Sean Murphy - Principal
ONE MONTH. 30 days. The old adage is if you do something for 30 days, it becomes a habit.
This is the "slow" time of year, where vacations happen and business activity wanes. Traditionally, people think no one is around and that nothing happens until the beginning of September or Labor Day. The prevailing view is that this is the time to take it easy and cool your heels.
Well, I'm a contrarian and firmly believe in making hay while others are sleeping or hanging at the beach. Today I want to share with you a plan that several of my high performing colleagues and I use. This strategy works for individuals, and is also a great tool for motivating your sales team. It will help you take action, be accountable and make dramatic progress, both professionally and personally over the next 30 days as we sprint to the end of summer. An added opportunity for you is build in an incentive to reward the new habits and successes of your team.
Step one is to ask yourself the question:
"What can I achieve when I put my mind to making something happen?"
I mean a realistic, FULL throttle, foot THROUGH THE FLOOR effort. I'm not talking about reaching world peace or solving all of your own issues in 30 days - I'm instead suggesting that you examine areas of your life and business where you really want make immediate progress in the next 30 days.
I came up with several achievements I wanted to accomplish and changes I was committed to making in my life. I have some personal and professional goals that I can measure and quantify. If you can track it, you can improve it, tweak it and ultimately CHANGE IT!
Here is a sample of what I'm going to achieve:
- 9 in-person meetings a week
- 30 new leads (besides the in-person)
- 3 new clients
- 10 Linked-in posts
- 30 Twitter posts
- 2 days of Karate per week
I've personally had life and career changing events and shifts occur within a few weeks, and sometimes even 30 seconds. It can happen, but you have to know what you want, be prepared and know your END GAME. Remember, positive habits are developed in 30 days.
If you really want to achieve something, you have to measure where you are and what you are achieving. Stop talking. Stop wishing. Start DOING! In 30 days you will have made incredible progress and made the slowest time of the year very productive and successful.
What is your GOAL LIST?
