NEWS & NOTES
It's doggone good information to know.

10 Safety Tips for Fourth of July
  • Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where pets can reach them.
  • Do not apply any sunscreen or insect repellent product to your pet that is not labeled specifically for use on animals. The misuse of insect repellent that contains DEET can lead to neurological problems.

  • Always keep matches and lighter fluid out of your pets' reach.

  • Keep your pets on their normal diet. Any change, even for one meal, can give your pets severe indigestion and diarrhea. And keep in mind that foods such as onions, chocolate, coffee, avocado, grapes & raisins, salt and yeast dough can all be potentially toxic to companion animals.

  • Do not put glow jewelry on your pets, or allow them to play with it.

  • Keep citronella candles, insect coils and oil products out of reach.

  • Never use fireworks around pets! Many types contain potentially toxic substances, including potassium nitrate, arsenic and other heavy metals.

  • Loud, crowded fireworks displays are no fun for pets, so please resist the urge to take them to Independence Day festivities. Instead, keep your little guys safe from the noise in a quiet, sheltered and escape-proof area at home.

Volunteer at the Monroe County Fair with MCHA
Every year, Monroe County Humane Association hosts a booth at the Monroe County Fair.  The fair is a great place to spread the word about the MCHA and our programs.  Volunteers will chat with visitors, register people for the Run for the Animals and our Spay/neuter assistance program, sell merchandise and work the ever-popular "Lucky Duck" game. You may even be paired with one of our wonderful Pet Partners Therapy Dog Teams.

Volunteers are needed the evenings of Saturday, July 26th - Saturday, August 2nd to man our table at the fair.  Shifts run from 5:00-7:30PM and 7:15 - 9:30PM daily.  Two volunteers are needed for each shift.

To find out more, email Sarah DeLone here.
What does $50 pay for at MCHA?
