February is Spay/Neuter awareness month
Did you know that the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter took in nearly 4,000 animals last year??  Believe it or not, the numbers used to be much higher- over 5200 in 2006. Many of these animals come from unplanned or unexpected litters. Thanks to an increase in low cost spay/neuter options in our area, we are seeing a significant decrease every year!

How can you help? Now is the time to get your pets spayed and neutered before the spring baby season is in full swing!

Not sure??? Take a look at the ASPCA Top Ten List of reasons to spay or neuter your pets.

If you or someone you know has a pet that needs to be fixed, there are assistance programs and low-cost options that can help.

The MCHA offers vouchers all year long for lower income Monroe County residents who need financial assistance to get their pet fixed. These vouchers significantly reduce the cost of surgery, especially if redeemed at Pets Alive. In 2013, the MCHA issued more than 600 vouchers to help Monroe County residents!

In addition to accepting MCHA SNAP vouchers, Pets Alive also offers low cost vaccinations and monthly specials.  In February, female cats can be spayed for just $20 at Pets Alive.

This statewide program funded by the pet friendly license plate offers vouchers for lower income Indiana residents all year round, but in February offers a special reduced fee voucher that can be used by anyone. Participating clinics can be found in Cloverdale, Bloomfield, Worthington and Martinsville.

Together, we can save a lot of lives!
