TCR Marathon Team Update: All Safe

I am grateful to be able to share with you that all eight runners of our Miles & Memories Marathon Team, as well as their family and friends, are safe and accounted for.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events of yesterday's Boston Marathon. Challenging times like these are a horrific reminder of the importance of creating safe, caring communities that allow us to feel supported and connected to one another.

If you would like to come together with others to process these unimaginable events and do something that feels healing, you are invited to join me tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at The Children's Room from 6:30 - 7:30pm.

There is no specific program planned for this gathering, just a time and space to reflect, be together, and support one another. If you are interested in joining or have any questions, please contact Liz at liz@childrensroom.org or 781-641-4741 ext. 225.

We deeply appreciate the concern and kind thoughts that have come from so many of you. Your support of our Marathon team - both during their long training and after yesterday's tragedy - means so much to all of us here at The Children's Room.

In peace and appreciation,

Donna Smith Sharff
Executive Director

Thanks to their efforts and our generous TCR community, the Miles & Memories Team has raised over $77,000 for The Children's Room!

To everyone who contributed to our runners' goals, thank you for all you have done to support TCR. Your donations help create safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone.

It's not too late to support our team's fundraising efforts! You can still read their inspirational stories and support their run.

Renovation Project Begins at TCR
The Children's Room is excited to announce the beginning of a new renovation project!

Renovating our garage and cellar (lovingly called our "garden level") will allow TCR staff to move all our offices downstairs, creating much-needed additional program and training space on the original first floor. This will also enable the existing ramp facing Appleton Street to support handicap accessibility for our programs.

The Arlington community has been wonderful to The Children's Room. Martin Conneely of Conneely Contracting has been incredibly supportive of TCR through the years and is offering his services at a generous discount, and financing for the project is possible with the help of Leader Bank and generous donations from LIG-49 Foundation, Barbara & Mathew Loonin, and Linda & Arthur Gelb.

We're also grateful to Big Foot Moving for their help with moving and storage and Harry Allen of Arlmont Fuel for being a steadfast provider for TCR's heating needs. We are thrilled to have Advisory Board member Maryanne Andrew serving as renovation project manager.

Work on the project began last week and will be completed by the end of the summer before our program year begins in October.

We're excited for the changes ahead and hope you will join us for a community tour of our home in the fall!

Advisory Board highlight:

Victoria Arthur, MD

The Children's Room has many committed, talented individuals serving on our Advisory Board. For this month's feature, we'd like to introduce you to Victoria Arthur, MD of Lexington Pediatrics .
Dr. Victoria Arthur

The Children's Room's Marathon story began in 2010 when Dr. Victoria Arthur received a bib for the Boston Marathon.

After witnessing the support her brother's wife and son received from participating in support group at The Children's Room, Victoria decided she wanted to run the Boston Marathon to support TCR and honor the memory of her brother, Peter.

Victoria's pioneering run raised $17,000 for TCR, making her one of the year's Top 10 Fundraisers of the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program and leading to more bibs being offered to TCR for the following year.

Like all of our Advisory Board members, Victoria is an active ambassador for TCR in the community. With her pediatric practice she is able to make referrals to families who might benefit from our services, and she has also invited TCR to train her team of pediatricians.

Thank you, Victoria, for all that you do to support grieving children, teens, and families!

Volunteer highlight:

Jean-marie Corrois

We're very grateful for the many ways Jean-marie Corrois has supported The Children's Room.
Jean-marie Corrois
An incredibly talented drummer, Jean-marie has shared his professional talents for several TCR events, including the Memories Walk. Despite his full-time work as a musician, he volunteers in many ways behind the scenes... Teen Troupe transportation and stage support, all kinds of projects around the house, and even chaperoning our Celtics Teen event!

We appreciate the many unique ways TCR volunteers support our mission. Thank you, Jean-marie!

You can see Jean-marie play live at an upcoming June performance! Click here for more details.
