Help Restore the Dunes!
Saturday, January 10, 9am-12 noon
Moss Landing State Beach, Highway 1 & Jetty Road

Join Elkhorn Slough Foundation and California State Parks for a fun morning restoring the sand dunes at Moss Landing State Beach!  You can help us plant native seedlings that will prevent erosion, provide habitat for snowy plovers, and create a beautiful natural access point for visitors.

For a sneak preview, watch our one-minute time-lapse video of last month's planting at Moss Landing State Beach.

This is a free, family-friendly event, open to all. We'll bring the tools, gloves, water and a light snack. You bring the energy and enthusiasm! (We encourage you to bring your own gloves and watering cans, if possible.)

For more info, or to let us know you're coming, visit our calendar of events.

See you at the beach!

Your Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words:
California King Tides Initiative
You can help the California King Tides Project to capture this year's king tides (the highest tides of the year) on January 19-21, and February 17-19. These extreme tides provide a glimpse of what our coast can expect as sea levels rise.

Participating is easy: grab your camera or smart phone to snap shots of Elkhorn Slough during the high tides, then share your photos, along with
the time, date, and location of the image.

Above all, be safe! Take extra precautions when you walk on slippery areas or near big waves, and always be aware of your surroundings and the weather conditions.

For more details about the California King Tides Project at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve , email virginia@elkhornslough.org or call (831)728-2822.
Sightings: California Tiger Salamanders
During last month's storms, Reserve Manager Dave Feliz got a slippery surprise when he headed to Strawberry Road to help move dozens of California Tiger Salamanders out of harm's way. See photos these remarkable amphibians and read about Dave's adventures at his blog, Dave on the Trail.

For more updates on birds, wildlife and natural wonders spotted recently at Elkhorn Slough, check out our Sightings blog.
