On March 12, the 2013 Mylan World TeamTennis lineups were completed when the Roster Draft was held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. Thirty players were selected across the eight teams to play in the 38th season when it kicks off this July.

Cancer survivor Alisa Kleybanova was selected by the Springfield Lasers with the first overall pick in the draft and will be making her Mylan WTT debut this summer. Martina Hingis, a 2013 International Tennis Hall of Fame inductee, was acquired by the Washington Kastles in a pre-draft trade with the New York Sportimes. Other players drafted include former college standout Steve Johnson (Orange County Breakers); up-and-coming American Taylor Townsend (Sacramento Capitals); and returning member of the two-time defending Mylan WTT champion Washington Kastles - Leander Paes.

During the weekend of March 1-3, the first Mylan WTT National Qualifier of the year was held in Daytona Beach, Fla. Teams from seven states and Puerto Rico attended the tournament, which was held at the Florida Tennis Center; and six teams won division titles and the opportunity to advance to the Nationals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif., November 1-3 

Teams qualifying for Nationals included Gorillas Locos of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Winsum Dinsum, of Paoli, Pa.; Pachauri of St. Louis; FTC of Ormond Beach, Fla. (pictured below); Park City-Salt Lake Pacemakers, of Salt Lake City; and Intrepids, of North Miami, Fla.

Last month, Serena Williams reclaimed the No.1 ranking and became the oldest player at 31 to hold the top spot. After finishing 2012 with a string of impressive victories including Wimbledon, two Olympic Gold medals, the US Open and WTA Championships, Williams began her 2013 campaign win her 47th career title at Brisbane and found herself back at No. 1 for the first time since 2010.

This weekend, Williams will take on Maria Sharapova in the Sony Open finals in Key Biscayne, Fla., with a chance to add her second title this year and No. 48 overall. To read more about the star's remarkable comeback, check out this recent article from The Miami Herald.

Fans: mark your calendars! The 2013 season dates for Mylan WTT presented by GEICO have been released. During the 38th season of Mylan WTT, 59 matches  will be played in July, with the season culminating on July 28 with the Mylan WTT Finals presented by GEICO.

Mylan WTT Regular season:
Sunday, July 7 - Wednesday, July 24

Mylan WTT Conference Championships presented by GEICO:
Thursday, July 25 on the court of the top-seeded team in each Conference

Mylan WTT Finals presented by GEICO:
Sunday, July 28 on the home court of the Eastern Conference Champions

In 2013, the following changes will be made to the Rec League format:
  1. The age requirement for Seniors will remain 50+ and 60+ for Super Seniors.
  2. Only one division will be offered for Super Seniors,  Super Seniors 4.0 / under.
  3. The Open Division Nationals and the Corporate Nationals will be held in conjunction with the Recreational League Nationals in Indian Wells, Calif., during the weekend of November 1-3.

This summer, 15-time Grand Slam champion and 2013 International
Tennis Hall of Fame inductee Martina Hingis will join a Washington Kastles
team that is poised to make its third consecutive run at the King Trophy.
The 2012 Female MVP, who was traded by the New York Sportimes
to the Washington Kastles before the Roster Draft, will be playing
her sixth Mylan WTT season this year and first with the Kastles. Hingis joins the team beginning on July 15 following her Hall of Fame induction.

Earlier this month, Sacramento Capitals star Sam Querrey became the  No. 1 male American, replacing former Mylan WTT player John Isner who previously held the top spot. Currently ranked No. 20 in the world, Querrey's 2013 accomplishments include a semifinal appearance in Auckland and San Jose, and helping his Davis Cup teammates to a 3-2 win over Brazil. When Querrey hits the Mylan WTT court this summer, he will play four matches for the 2012 runner-up Caps, including one home match on Monday, July 22.




The Texas Wild's Bob and Mike Bryan are off to a strong start on the ATP World Tour circuit in 2013. After winning the Australian Open men's doubles and two other titles earlier this year, the dynamic duo added their first BNP Paribas Open title in Indian Wells, Calif.  The Bryans defeated fellow Mylan WTT player Treat Huey (Orange County Breakers) and Jerzy Janowicz 6-3, 3-6, 10-6, making it their 86th title as a team.
