J.P. Smith receives wildcard into main draw of Australian Open!
The New Year has brought JP many good fortunes and it's only January! The young Aussie was 1 of 4 Australians who were granted wildcards into the main draw of the Australian Open! Even though he received a wildcard for doubles last year, this will be his first Singles Main Draw event at a Grand Slam.
In an interview with Tennis Australia JP stated: "It's a great privilege to play in the Australian Open, my favourite Grand Slam, and something I have grown up dreaming about...Big thanks to Tennis Australia for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to making the most of it."
We wish him the best of luck facing Joao Sousa of Portugal in the first round of his native Grand Slam and then having a potential match up with current world #3 Andy Murray in the second round.

Australian Open Preview
With the first Grand Slam of the year starting in just 4 days, how can tennis not be on your mind! Be sure to watch the Australian Open and cheer on our very own JP Smith as he competes in the first Grand Slam of the new year!
JP won't be the only Breaker making an appearance Down Under. Lindsay Davenport will be commentating throughout the 2 weeks for the Tennis Channel as well as playing in the Legends Event, teaming up with another former Grand Slam Champion, Amelie Mauresmo.
