2012 Willette Scholarship Winners

In the fourth year of the Kathy Willette youth scholarship program, the competition for the WTT Junior Nationals essay contest proved closer than ever.  Tasked with writing an essay on the lessons learned, the friendships made and the impact of the coed team format on the individual player, tournament participants
Kevin Frommer
put pen to paper to convey their personal experiences for a prize.

Two teens from opposite sides of the country said it best in 2012. Kevin Frommer of Montgomery, N.Y. (USTA Eastern Way Team) and Akari Baba of Vancouver, Wash. (Smashing Rebels) each won a $300 scholarship from WTT charities based on their thoughtful recollections from their time at the WTT Junior Nationals.

After extraordinary tennis play in 2012 including wins at Wimbledon, the US Open and the WTA Championships in Istanbul, Serena Williams has been named WTA's Player of the Year.

Playing with her Wilson Blade Team BLX tennis racket, "Serena Williams put together one of the greatest seven months in the history of women's tennis from April to October this year, winning two Grand Slam titles, Olympic gold and 48 of 50 matches" says the WTA of Williams' 2012 season.

2012 marks Williams' fourth time receiving the Player of the Year honor, as WTA also awarded her the title in 2002, 2008, and 2009. She is one of only three other players to win more than twice in the award's 36-year history.

Mylan is proud to announce its three-year partnership with World TeamTennis (WTT), an organization that clearly shares the company's dedication to access. Whether it's WTT's lineup of star-studded events, or Mylan's commitment to setting new standards in health care, both organizations have a lot in common when it comes to creating access.

For more than 50 years, Mylan has been advocating values that align closely with those of WTT. Heather Bresch, the CEO of Mylan, recently remarked, "Mylan chose to partner with WTT due to our organizations' shared commitment to helping people around the world overcome barriers to access. For WTT, access means making sure everyone has the opportunity to participate on a team, preparing people-regardless of age, gender or race-to compete both in sports and in life. For Mylan, access is our purpose. We are working every day to set new standards in health care and provide the world's 7 billion people access to high quality medicine-and breaking down barriers to access along the way."

Mylan and WTT have already begun putting their partnership to work. At their first event together, the 20th anniversary of Smash Hits, Mylan and WTT delivered a top-notch tennis event, while also raising a record-setting

$1 million dollars for a cause Mylan cares about passionately, with funds benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force.

Mylan has found a solid partner in WTT and hopes you will support the company's pledge to improve access to both tennis and high quality medicine around the world. If you would like to see more about Mylan, its mission or its products, please visit Mylan.com.
