Reflections from Jim White

Jim White Dear Friends,

I hope you all had a wonderful summer engaged in the good work of keeping our communities vital through your nonprofit action. As summer winds down, we are getting ready for a new program year.

It's looking like we'll have much to discuss at NAO's Fifth Annual Meeting on October 7th in Bend, in conjunction with the High Desert Nonprofit Leaders Conference.

We're excited to have Peter Brinckerhoff as our keynote speaker. Peter's an award-winning author with eight books and two workbooks in print, and over 60 articles published in the not-for-profit press. The conference will feature tracks for leaders, volunteer managers and board members. Registration will be $85 for NAO and Arts & Culture Alliance Members, and $115 for nonmembers.

A piece of good news. Last month, the United States House of Representatives voted to approve the America Gives More Act (H.R.4719), which contains several vital provisions that encourage charitable giving, and in turn serve varied causes all across the state of Oregon.

Unfortunately, the Senate will have only 12 legislative days to address these important provisions before congress adjourns again, and the focus shifts to the Nov. election cycle.  Read more
