Reflections from Jim White

Dear Friends,

Did you know that the Deputy Director of an Oregon organization recently won an extremely competitive national leadership award? We will be celebrating with her as she is honored with a luncheon during the Independent Sector (IS) National Conference in Seattle this November, and we hope that you will join us.

Find out who won, the special IS conference registration rates extended to NAO Members, and my takeaways from the Eastern Oregon Nonprofit Conference earlier this month here.

Public Policy News

Protecting Charitable Giving

NAO joined over 250 organizations in signing Independent Sector's May 27 letter urging the US House Ways and Means Committee to make a number of tax extenders that are critical to the nonprofit sector permanent. On May 29, the Committee approved three of the expired tax extenders. Unfortunately, Senate Democrats and Republicans are deadlocked on the issue. Earlier this month, US Senate Majority leader Harry Reid stated that so the legislation would have to wait until after the November congressional elections.

Last week, we signed on to Independent Sector's letter asking the full House to vote in support of renewing the IRA charitable rollover and the enhanced incentives for donations of food inventory and land conservation easements. As of today, they are still gathering signatures.
