Oregon Sets Fair Fiscal Reporting Standards
Oregon House Bill (HB) 4081--which authorizes the Attorney General to enforce nonprofit reporting and regulatory requirements--is law! The bill passed both the House and the Senate in February and it was signed by the Governor on March 3, 2014.
IRS Gets an Earful from Nonprofits on Proposed Regulations
NAO joined Independent Sector to comment on proposed IRS regulations that would redefine the rules for political activity by tax-exempt organizations. The IRS received a whopping 143,764 comments on its proposed 501(c)(4) regulations concerning campaign-related political activity. For more details, read this article from Nonprofit Quarterly.

Exceptional Talent Now Available: The Oregon & Hatfield Fellows Programs
Each year, the Center for Public Service at PSU recruits students from renowned master's and PhD graduate programs from around the US for its Next Generation Initiative.
Oregon Fellows are available for 10-week stints during their summer breaks, generally starting mid-May and mid-June. The sponsor fee for an Oregon Fellow is $9,000. Hatfield Resident Fellows--eager to transition to their public service careers--are available beginning July 15 for approximately eight months. For Hatfield Fellows the sponsorship fee is $35,000. This Center for Nonprofit Stewardship Board member training event features popular instructors presenting timely workshops for new and veteran Board members. Participants will have ample opportunity to ask questions and explore issues related to their nonprofit organization.
Topics being addressed include: governing Board responsibilities, understanding and using financial information, nonprofit legal documents, and strengthening Board leadership. Learn more.
