The National Council of Nonprofit's President Calls on Nonprofits to Stand Up and Speak Out

In a recent Huffington Post article Tim Delaney gave us new language as he described the advancing fiscal cliff as a "human cliff."  Tim's rendering calls on nonprofits to stand up, speak out, and paint a vivid, realistic, and understandable picture of the ramifications of policy decisions on the men, women, and children we serve. NAO's Role in Public Policy

We strive to provide you with tools and timely information so that you can participate in public policy dialogue that affects your organization, community, and the people you serve. Your nonprofit can be an important bridge between policy makers and your constituents.

At the Annual meeting on October 12, NAO's Public Policy Committee offered an opportunity to learn from case studies of two nonprofit Board discussions about Ballot Measure 84, an initiative to phase out Oregon's estate tax. While the outcomes of the discussions were very different for the two organizations, the dialogue, weighing of the pros and cons, and coming to a consensus about the issue provided a great example for us all to model with our Boards around public policy.
