Education Collaboratives: What can Funders Do?
At a roundtable discussion about funding collaboratives on education, Tracy Bame of Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation explained a national collaborative in which they are involved to support STEM education. 100kin10 partners have committed to strategically address the nation's shortage of STEM teachers and improve STEM learning for all students by training and retaining 100,000 excellent science, technology, engineering, and math teachers by 2021. APS Foundation seeks STEM grant applicants
The APS Foundation strives to make an ongoing, tangible impact in improving K-12 student performance in the STEM subjects by  supporting a wide range of 501c3 nonprofit programs and projects designed to help students excel in STEM.  In addition, the Foundation supports nonprofit organizations committed to improving content expertise in the STEM subjects and enhancing the pedagogical skills of teachers.  The APS Foundation is now seeking grant applicants for its fall funding cycle.  The deadline is September 1, 2013 and the grant application and additional information can be found at www.aps.com/corporategiving

Arizona Summit on Volunteerism & Service-Learning is now seeking presenters for their December event
The conference seeks proposals that will engage volunteers, Service-Learners, public and private educational institutions, youth groups, government agencies, community and faith-based groups, volunteer managers, service clubs, corporation and business leaders in preparing for a new age of volunteerism and service-learning in our communities. Youth-led workshop proposals are also welcomed and encouraged. The deadline for submission of proposals is

Helios Education Foundation's Dr. Jo Anne Vasquez Honored with National Science Award
Dr. Jo Anne Vasquez, Helios Education Foundation's Vice President and Program Director for Arizona Transition Years, Teacher and Curriculum Initiatives, has received the National Science Board's 2013 Public Service Award for her expertise and leadership in the field of K-12 science and math education. On May 17, Arizona Foundation for Women honored Goldie Hawn, Ernie Allen and Missy Anderson at the 17th Annual AFW Awards Luncheon for their inspirational work to improve the lives of women and children. This year's event was the most successful ever, raising over $460,000 for AFW! Read more about this event.

Hickey Family Foundation identified as top funder of underserved communities
NCRP has just released its annual report "The Philanthropic Landscape" which analyzes of four key grantmaking trends in U.S. philanthropy. It uses the latest data to track giving to underserved communities, social justice philanthropy, general operating support and multi-year funding for 2011. Arizona foundation, Hickey Family Foundation, is listed as one of the top funders in "The State of Giving to Underserved Communities 2011."
