Staffing Changes at AGF
Emma Schneider, former AmeriCorps VISTA and Communications Associate, will be staying on at AGF as Communications Manager. She will continue to handle her current job responsibilities as well as assume a more significant role in staffing some of the AGF affinity groups.
Now that the elections are behind us, what will the next four years bring? AGF is convening top leaders in Arizona's philanthropic sector to give their insight on what issues will be most critical here in Arizona in the coming months and years. Member Satisfaction Survey Results
A total of 53 members responded to this year's satisfaction survey - a 20% increase over last year. Thanks to all of you who provided us with this valuable feedback. While we are still completing the full analysis of the results, we can share the following highlights:

Arizona Foundation for Women Elects new CEO 
Alisa Chatinsky has been selected as the new Chief Executive Officer of Arizona Foundation for Women. Bringing more than 25 years of marketing, fundraising and leadership experience to AFW, Chatinsky was most recently Director of Development for the Jewish Community Association of Greater Phoenix and Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center in Scottsdale. Her previous positions included Development Officer for Florence Crittenton and Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center. For more than a decade, she served as Associate Director of Prevent Child Abuse Arizona.
 Carol Peden Schilling elected to board of NMPCT
Trustees of the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust have chosen Carol Peden Schilling to serve as chair of the Trust.
She will be the second person to hold the position since the Trust began its grantmaking in 1998. She succeeds Frank E. Russell, who headed the Trust from its founding until his retirement last December.
Mrs. Schilling, one of the three founding Trustees, was Nina Mason Pulliam's niece and late-life companion.
Helios Foundation invests in Arizona Mayors Education Roundtable
A group of eight Arizona mayors, with initial funding from the Helios Education Foundation, have formed the Arizona Mayors Education Roundtable. The virtual organization, managed by WestEd, a research, development and service agency, will provide an important way for mayors to have in-depth discussions about education initiatives, overcome policy barriers, and develop common, cohesive strategies for addressing local problems. The Arizona Community Foundation, joined Napa Valley Community Foundation in sharing publicly the full results of its most recent donor perception report, noting that "the insights shared are shaping our immediate and long-term plans." Read the full report here.
2012 Rodel Exemplary Principal Leads School to Title I Distinction
A 2012 Rodel Exemplary Principal, Christine Hollingsworth, and her staff at Acacia Elementary School in the Washington Elementary School District were recognized as a 2012 Title I National Distinguished School - one of two schools in Arizona.
Pulliam Charitable Trust awards $2.2 million in grants
The Trust's second round of 2012 grant awards in Arizona totals $2,201,532 and includes grants in the priority areas of Helping People in Need, Protecting Animals and Nature and Enriching Community LIfe. For more detailed information on the grants, please go to project descriptions.
Arizona Community Foundation awards $1.7 million in grants
ACF grants are awarded to high-performing organizations and programs providing services to children, youth, families and the elderly, and in the areas of health and scientific research, community development, environment and sustainability, and arts and culture. More info.

First job: day laborer in construction which ultimately led to driving a tractor trailer up and down the east coast. Most interesting: Deputy Director of US Programs at the Gates Foundation. Most gratifying and impactful: President and CEO of the ACF. Your path to philanthropy:
Spent my career in public education in Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC and came in contact with many foundations and philanthropists. When I completed my term serving as Interim Superintendent of the District of Columbia Public Schools, I was asked to serve as partner and Chief Investment Officer for Venture Philanthropy Partners in DC, one the first and most innovative venture philanthropy firms in the US. From there I was asked to join the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, upon which I declined as I didn't want to move to Seattle. The offer rebounded a year later, and I accepted and moved to Seattle. And now, I'm lucky enough to be leading the ACF, one of the best community foundations in the US.
Hobbies/Favorite pastime:
Cross training, Yoga, Wine, Food, and anything on HBO on Sunday nights
What you work on after work: Nothing, I'm too tired! Favorite quote or motto:
