Meet FMHS' Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Say Hello to #1 and #2!
Valedictorian - Nidhish Lokesh
Weighted GPA: 124.8262
Intended College: The University of Texas at Dallas
Intended Major: Biochemistry
Nidhish Lokesh, son of Lokesh Puttaswamy and Bharathi Lokesh, is the 2014-2015 Flower Mound High School (FMHS) Valedictorian. Lokesh is involved in FMHS Varsity Mixed Choir, Men's Chamber Choir, Shades of Blue a cappella group, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. While at The University of Texas at Dallas, he will plans to study Biochemistry and hopes to use his degree to enter medical school. Lokesh's favorite memories from school are choir concerts and trips around the country, going to the FMHS varsity baseball State Championship game and seeing FMHS win, homecomings and proms. His most impactful teacher is FMHS' Choir Director, Dr. Mark Rohwer. His advice to future graduates, "Learn to balance everything right so that you can do well in whatever activities and in school and still have plenty of time for hanging out with your friends and enjoying high school. "
Salutatorian - Melanie Shi Weighted GPA: 124.7188 Intended College: Columbia University Intended Major: Undecided
Melanie Shi, daughter of Jack Shi and Mary Zhong, is the 2014-2015 FMHS Salutatorian. She is involved in FMHS Debate and Speech, Junior World Affairs Council, Science National Honor Society, Globally Green Environmental Club and Mu Alpha Theta. She plans to attend Columbia University. Shi's favorite memory and time from school was how during AP exam weeks, students let go of pretentious so that all that remains is cramming and joking around. Her most impactful teacher is FMHS' English Language and Composition teacher, Jeremy Werts. Her advice to future graduates, "Gustave Flaubert often wrote about the inadequacy of expression--about how 'differences of sentiment' are masked by 'sameness of their expressions.' I wish I'd known before my four years at FMHS that people carry out apparently similar actions for a diverse array of reasons. In other words, even if it seems like you are taking a similar path as others are, the things you do in high school (from the courses you select to club(s) you participate in) are defined solely by what they mean to you."
