Yellow Brick Road is Golden for Grand Ball
Lewisville High School Special Needs Students Dance the Night Away
Photo Gallery
Lewisville High School (LHS) made prom dreams come true for special needs students on March 29.
For the 19th consecutive year, LHS hosted the Circle of Friends Grand Ball in the LHS cafeteria with a standing-room attendance of more than 550 people, including 33 members of the Royal Court from LHS, LHS-Killough and LHS-Harmon. Borrowed from the classic film The Wizard of Oz, the theme was "There's No Place Like Home."
From arriving in limos to walking down the yellow brick road, to posing for pictures during a fancy dinner and dancing the night away, smiles were plentiful for students and their families and friends.
"A mother once told us that outside of graduation, the Circle of Friends Grand Ball is the most important event in the lives of these students and their families," said LHS secretary Kay Sutton, a longtime Grand Ball committee member. "She also said that we had given them something that they could only dream of. With that being said, this is a huge undertaking, and we know that without the help of our school, community and volunteers that this special evening would not be possible."

Boats Being Built at Lewisville High School-Harmon
Art Students Preparing for Annual Cardboard Regatta

Summer may not be here just yet, but that isn't stopping Lewisville High School's Harmon campus (LHS-Harmon) students from getting a head start.
Nearly 20 students from Joshua Fletcher's art classes have been busy building a pair of boats in preparation for the 25th Annual River City Legacy Cardboard Boat Regatta, to be held April 26 at Hurricane Harbor in Arlington, Texas.
The hard-working group of freshman and sophomores have been designing, building and painting the two vessels since returning from Winter Break. They meet every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. or so in Fletcher's classroom and even sneak in work during their 30-minute lunch breaks. Fletcher has enjoyed seeing the effort and enthusiasm.
"It is students teaching students and working together," Fletcher said. "This is my fifth year doing this and this group works a lot faster. They are building two boats in the same amount of time it has taken to build one in the past."
