Lewisville High School Sociology Classes
Assemble Flash Mob

Borenstein's Students Utilize "The Fox" Song to Disrupt, Study Social Norms

Watch the performance!

If the lyrics "What does the fox say?" from the viral music video "The Fox" by Ylvis weren't already stuck in the heads of Lewisville High School (LHS) students and staff, they are now.

Robert Borenstein's sociology classes administered a project in the cafeteria at lunchtime on Oct. 23 to study people's reactions when you violate the social norm. Needless to say, the plan worked.

What started with senior Gavin Black sitting all alone in a rocking chair dressed up like an old man reading a children's book about animal sounds for 30 minutes turned into a full-out flash mob - a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse - to the popular Internet song. The nearly 60 students modeled their performance after the music video, even dressing up as animals such as cats, cows, fish, horses, mice and of course, plenty of foxes.

Another Successful Read Across Central Event

LISD Leadership, Board, Community, High School Students Among Volunteers

Not to say every day at Central Elementary (Central) isn't exciting, but Nov. 1 had a little extra buzz to it.

Lewisville ISD (LISD) leadership, LISD Board of Trustees members, community leaders and Lewisville High School (LHS) students walked through Central's doors and into classrooms to volunteer in the long-standing tradition of "Read Across Central," an all-day event spent celebrating and reading books.

Each volunteer - serving as a positive role model in literacy - selected a book (fiction or non-fiction) they wanted to read to students and spent at least 30 minutes doing so in a classroom.
