Today, Sept. 11, 2013, marks the 12th anniversary of the tragedies in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. Lewisville ISD (LISD) dutifully remember the lives lost on that day.

Last week, Lewisville ISD (LISD) launched Instagram and asked parents, students, teachers and administrators to share back-to-school Instagram pictures with us using the hashtag, "#LISDB2S." 

The top five photos have been chosen - one from each LISD feeder pattern - and are now featured on the rotating graphic section of our website, www.lisd.net. LISD chose back-to-school photos of a Bluebonnet Bear, Creekside Cub, Hebron Hawk, McAuliffe Highlander and Peters Colony Panther. To view all submitted photos, visit our Facebook page.

LISD Board of Trustees Recap - Sept. 9
Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees Gathers for Monthly Meeting

The Lewisville ISD (LISD) Board of Trustees met for their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 9. 

Awards and Recognition

Lewisville High School Harmon campus (LHS Harmon) teacher Erika Lowery was honored for receiving the National Council of Geographic Education Teaching Award.

 

Lewisville Learning Center (LLC) teacher Caroline Parish was honored for receiving the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Frank Kemerer Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award.

 

Flower Mound High School (FMHS)'s University Interscholastic League (UIL) One-Act Play team, "Dramatic Paws," was honored for advancing to the state finals in the 2013 UIL One-Act Play competition and receiving the bronze medal.

 

Shadow Ridge Middle School (SRMS) was honored for winning 3rd place in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Honor Band.

 

Destination Imagination (DI) student teams from Coyote Ridge Elementary (CRE), "The Nerdz," and those from McKamy Middle School (MMS), "Spontaneous Combustion," were honored for their recent accomplishments at DI tournaments. CRE won 1st place at regionals, 2nd place at the Texas DI State Tournament and the Renaissance Award at State for Engineering Excellence - Technical Challenge "In the Zone." MMS won 1st place at the TVNC Regional Tournament and 3rd place at the Texas DI State Tournament for Scientific Challenge "Wind Visible."

LISD Releases District Capacity Study

Optimal Capacity Plays a Key Role in Intradistrict Transfers 

 

Lewisville ISD (LISD), in conjunction with PBK Architects, recently compiled a capacity study to thoroughly and concisely define campus capacity, the number of students who can accommodate each individual LISD campus for instruction in a maximally efficient manner. To determine capacity, LISD and PBK met with each of the district's 67 campus principals to review floor plans and individual campus programs.

LISD Strategic Design Coaches Unveil 2013-2014 Plan of Work
Group Uses Innovation Configurations Map to Inform Leadership Team

Lewisville ISD (LISD)'s Strategic Design Coaches met with LISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Stephen F. Waddell and the Leadership Team at Bolin Administrative Center on Sept. 30 to discuss and unveil their plan of work for the 2013-2014 academic year.
 
The 39 coaches, using a simulated Southwest Airlines model, unveiled an Innovation Configurations Map (IC Map), which is designed to provide clear pictures and guide educators in increasing the quality and results of professional learning. It also identifies and describes the major components of the standards in operation, helping those in various roles understand the actions they take as part of system-wide implementation.

MHS Distributes New iPads to Students
Ninth- and 10th-Grade Students Receive Apple Devices


During the second week of school, more than 1,500 Marcus High School (MHS) ninth- and 10th-grade students zigzagged their way through the library to receive brand new iPads.

 

The iPad deployment is part of Lewisville ISD (LISD)'s 1:X initiative, a direct link to LISD's Strategic Design, a groundbreaking, transformative installation of a flexible learning environment that gives students tools to access, create, share and collaborate as digital citizens.

MHS Artist Wins First Place at Texas State Fair 

Congratulations to Marcus High School (MHS) student Cory Khatemi, who won 1st place Best in Show - Juniors award; 1st place in category; and the Directors Award - a special award given to only one recipient by Texas State Fair Director of Creative Arts - which his entry "The Future" captured the best representation of the State Fair theme. Khatemi's winning entry will be on display at the Texas State Fair in the Creative Arts Building Sept. 27-Oct. 20. Nicely done, Cory!

MHS Wears Blue to Honor Guyer Student
Last week, MHS students, faculty and staff honored the memory of Nathan Maki, a Guyer High School senior who lost his life in a tragic hunting accident, by wearing "Guyer" blue and the number 33 - Maki's football number. What an honorable way to support others in the community, MHS.

LISD's Child Nutrition Department offers a free low balance email notification feature to help parents/guardians stay updated on students' meal account balance. Once enrolled, email notifications will be sent when food service account balances fall to $10 or lower. More Information

Career Center East and Dale Jackson Career Center Open Houses - Sept. 17
Career Center East (CCE) and Dale Jackson Career Center (DJCC) are hosting their annual Fall Open Houses on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 5:30-7 p.m. The events are come-and-go, and students and parents are able to meet their teachers and see the schools firsthand. 

Destination Imagination Recruiting Extravaganzas - Sept. 19 and 26
Interested in Destination Imagination (DI)? It's a fun, educational program offered to all LISD students, kindergarten through 12th-grade. DI is a volunteer-based program that teaches creative problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork skills while integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), fine arts and service learning attributes - a great example of project-based learning (PBL) in an extracurricular environment.
