Green Valley Aromatherapy

September 2016

Hi Aroma Friends,

Welcome to the start of the busy time. I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing summer; Camping, visiting the beaches or just plain reading a book under a shady tree.

September starts off with getting the kids organized for going back to school. My granddaughters are looking forward to it while my grandson is not as sure. He is moving up into senior school. This is one of the best times to make use of your essential oils. Put absorbent cards with the relevant oils on them into their sports bags, backpacks, lunch bags and pockets.

Some friends of ours started to use our Terminator Blend when they are flying. They swear that since they have been using it, they do not get sick. You have to have a very good immune system to fly. The air conditioner picks up all the viruses, bacteria and unknown bugs and merrily passes them around the aircraft. Our friends have shared this blend with many of their other frequent flier friends with good results. I am not allowed to fly at the moment as my immune system is shattered due to the Chemo. I am planning lots of trips for next year and I will let you know how it works for me.

All the best,

Recipes

Recipe for a locker

Sports lockers and lockers at school can be incredibly smelly places. Try this
blend of essential oils to freshen up your locker:

20 drops of Pine essential oil
Blend the essential oils in a small bottle. Mix in 1 tablespoon of vodka or pure
alcohol, then add 10 drops of this mixture into 100mls of water in a spray bottle.

Shake well.

Recipe for Stress Relief

Combine all essential oils into a 5ml bottle and diffuse whenever stress finds you. Blend into a carrier oil for a stress relieving massage or add 5-6 drops to your bath for a care lifting soak!

Product Profiles

Rhododendron Essential Oil (Rhododendron anthopogon

Rhododendron essential oil is a middle note and is steam distilled from the flowers and leaves of the Rhododendron plant. Our Rhododendron essential oil comes from a farmers cooperative in the mountains of Nepal.

Rhododendron essential oil has an earthy, balsamic, exotic smell with a hint of a floral aroma. It is spiritually calming and grounding. This oil supports meditation and inner unity, and quiets mental activity. Rhododendron essential oil is said to help with mental and emotional pain. This is a good oil for moving on after a loss or bereavement.

Rhododendron essential oil can be added to creams, lotions or bath salts for inflamed and troubled skin. Add it to shampoo for healthy, shiny hair. It has been recommended as an aid to circulatory, lymphatic and respiratory systems.

Benzoin, Pourable (Styrax benzoin)

Benzoin is a base note and is steam distilled from the tree resin. Often used in medicines/chest balms to treat coughs and colds or to aid lung and sinus ailments. Benzoin is commonly used in lotions to soothe red, irritable and itchy skin.

Well known as a sedative, Benzoin is comforting and uplifting with a faint vanilla scent. It is also used as a preservative in oils.

Scents of BC Blend

Our Scents of BC blend was created as a memory of the province of British Columbia. It is a blend of Cedarwood essential oil, Cypress essential oil, Pine essential oil, Sage essential oil and Black Spruce essential oil. We added a little Vanilla to smooth and round off the wonderful aroma of a walk through the forests of B.C.

Cedarwood essential oil is a base note and has a light, woody aroma with sweet overtones. General properties include: anti-fungal, astringent, expectorant and sedative. With these properties, Cedarwood is useful with bronchitis, coughs and colds. Cedarwood helps to eliminate lactic acid and move toxins from the joints.

Cypress essential oil is a middle note and is an oil well known for helping with upper respiratory problems. Its general properties are anti-septic, decongestant, diuretic and sedative. It helps with edema, arthritis, asthma and muscle cramps.

Pine essential oil is another middle note. I love the aroma of Pine. Its general properties are detoxify, expectorant, decongestant, and anti-fungal. It is best known to help with muscular pain, coughs and colds, detoxifying and decongestant.

Sage essential oil is a top note. Its general properties are antidepressant, anti-infectious and stimulant. Sage is considered to be a metabolic stimulator and may help with dysmenorrhea, menopause and is being talked about with eczema, dandruff and hair loss.

Black Spruce essential oil is a middle note. This oil is known to support and strengthen the adrenal glands during times of stress and fatigue. Black Spruce is a very grounding oil and it helps us to identify who we are and to stay focused.

Now you can see why they say a walk in the woods is good for your health!
