December 2014

Barb - baskets

Greetings Aroma Friends,

Merry Christmas from all at Green Valley Aromatherapy. We wish you, your family and friends a healthy, happy and relaxing month of December.

As I wrote the greeting above, I imagined you all thinking, No Way!, like it is an accepted fact that Christmas is stressful. It does not have to be!

We know that if we abide by the rules (eating sensibly, exercising and drinking lots of water) we can lose weight. If you put your mind to sleeping better, using the suggestions in last months newsletter, you will sleep better. For me, it is breaking the habit of eating before I go to bed.

Put your mind to a stress free Christmas. Buy yourself a notepad that will fit in your handbag. Don't use it for anything else but your lists, notes and reminders. At the front of the book at the top, put 2 drops of Rosemary, 1 drop of Lavender and 1 drop of Orange essential oil. Underneath, write your affirmation confirming what a strong, energetic person you are and stating that you are going to have a stress free Christmas that all of the family will remember as a happy time.

The December newsletter is based around dealing with stress as it is the most stressful month of the year.

I like to start Christmas in early December by getting out the Christmas decorations and trimming the tree.  The previous year, on twelfth night as tradition goes, when the trimmings are coming down I pack them away in plastic bags. Even the boxed items. Before I tie up the plastic bag I add a few drops of essential oil onto a cotton ball and throw it into the bag. It is such a pleasant surprise as you start unpacking the decorations. So now, instead of being a chore, it is relaxing and fun.

All the best

Barb

P.S. If you would like your orders in time for Christmas, we recommend getting them in by December 10th.

We will be closed for the Christmas Holidays from December 23rd and will re-open on January 5th, 2015.

Happy New Year To One and All!

Thyme Essential Oil (Thymus vulgaris)

Thyme essential oil is an Immuno-stimulant. It is also anti-fungal, diuretic, antiseptic, and anti-infectious. This makes it a good oil to help prevent colds. If you do get a cold, then Thyme is good for dealing with all the symptoms; coughs, sore throat, respiratory infections etc. It is said that one drop of Thyme essential oil on the toothpaste on your brush is effective against the bacteria which causes gum infections.

Perhaps one of the most important actions of Thyme is that it stimulates the production of white corpuscles (white blood cells), strengthening the body's resistance to invading organisms. It also stimulates the body's circulation and raises low blood pressure.

Oddly enough, Thyme is used to fight insomnia. We know its properties as stimulating, similar to Rosemary, and as with many essential oils, Thyme has a balancing effect. It will help you to sleep when you need to and liven you up when you need to be alert.

Thyme is steam distilled twice to remove irritants that are in the plant.

Jolly Holiday! A very appropriate name for this blend. It is deliciously warm, creating a festive atmosphere and sending wafts of joy throughout your home.

Below is a table where I would like to point out the wonderful properties, not just the aroma.

When I was creating this blend it was purely for the aroma. I realize now that it is the perfect Christmas Blend. Jolly Holiday will help stop colds brought in by your visitors from spreading. If someone is feeling a bit low, it is uplifting. If anyone over eats, it is a digestive stimulant and for the stressed it is calming and uplifting.

Recipe

Dry Winter Skin

Dry winter skin can be a problem this time of year. You are probably spending more time indoors. Central heating is one of the worst things for drying out your skin ( I couldn't live without it) so, to combat this problem, try this recipe:

Add the following to 50mls of Evening Primrose oil and shake well.

Frankincense essential oil     8 drops
Geranium essential oil          10 drops
Palmarosa essential oil       10 drops
Sage essential oil                   7 drops

Use sparingly on your body and face after your morning shower.
Use generously on your face at bedtime and massage for at least 1 minute. Wipe the surplus over your arms and legs.

Did you Know?

There are different kinds of stress in our lives.

Emotional, chemical, mental, physical and environmental.

When you have admitted to yourself that you are stressed, the next step is to identify what kind of stress.

Environmental stress can by caused by many things such as bright or flickering lights over your desk, your chair not being the correct height, noises around you, being too cramped. Any of these things can give you a stress related headache.
BLEND:
Cedarwood, Geranium, and Bergamot. Use equal amounts in a diffuser or on a tissue.
Emotional stress can be caused by guilt issues with your children or partner, problems within your relationships, unrequited love and grief.
BLEND:
Vetivert, Palma Rosa, Sandalwood, Bergamot. Use 30 drops of each except Bergamot which is 60 drops. When blended together it adds up to 5ml. Keep the blend in a 5ml dropper bottle and use in a diffuser or add some to a carrier oil for a massage.
Chemical stress - You probably do not realize what you are inhaling when you are not in a place where you can control the environment. For example at work or while walking to work you could be inhaling all kinds of substances. Too many coffees, too much alcohol, too many analgesics and too much junk food. All of these and many more put pressure on your system.
BLEND:
Lavender, Rosemary, Geranium. Put equal amounts of each essential oil into a dropper bottle. Use on tissues, in your car diffuser or make it into a spray by adding water.
Mental Stress is usually caused by worrying over the amount of work you have to do, like studying for exams, worrying about work or financial problems. As soon as you start to deal with the situation you will see it is not as bad as you thought.
BLEND:
Bergamot, Grapefruit, Geranium. Put equal amounts of each essential oil into a dropper bottle. Use in a diffuser in your home, at work and in the car. Add 10 drops to a bath and treat yourself to a massage using this blend (trade massages with a friend).
Physical Stress is about your body. You can over use your body like when doing a marathon, over exercising, or lifting heavy objects. Many years ago my cousin was in a panic about a lump in the side of her breast. She wouldn't go to the doctor as she was afraid he would say it was cancer. I practically had to drag her there. The result was she had developed a muscle from her job of putting leaflets through doors!
BLEND:
10 drops of Marjoram, 8 drops of Roman Chamomile and 12 drops of Bergamot. Massage the affected area with 10 drops of the blend to 10mls of carrier oil. Ice is also good for inflammation.

Did you know that cats have 32 muscles in each ear? If you want to know what a cat is thinking, just watch it's ears.

What kids say?
Panties are just pillowcases for butts.
