Green Valley Aromatherapy
February 2014
|
 Greetings!
Happy Happy February to Everyone!
I hope you are feeling happy. If you are not, then every time you catch a glimpse of yourself looking glum, give yourself a great big smile even if you do not feel like it. "The show must go on!" It really is quite contagious.
February is the worst month for suicides and depression. Your smile may bring a glimmer of hope to someone you pass on the street. Did you see the movie "Pay it Forward"? Using the same theory, offer everyone a smile.
We are all smiling here at Green Valley Aromatherapy as we are now here in the Customer Appreciation Month. We have been planning this event for some time and looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you to all those who have already submitted stories to our contest. We are going to include one of them in this newsletter with more to come in the following months. I think it may be helpful to those who are going through similar situations. Every month I am writing what I do with essential oils so it is really interesting to find out what you have been doing. For more information about Customer Appreciation Month, see the end of the newsletter.
February is such a glum month. I think this is the reason we enjoy celebrating Valentine's Day. It is a nice tradition to look forward to a card or even a gift from your loved one. February is a busy month for me with all the birthdays. It would have been my Mum-in-laws birthday on the 29th. She passed away on Boxing Day. She would have been 98, or 24 and a half as she was a leap year baby. She was ready to go, said her goodbyes and passed away very peacefully.
Everywhere I go, schools, doctors offices, libraries, or at the dentist, I am bombarded with scent free signs. Does anyone feel like joining me in a campaign for "Chemical Free", not scent free. Lets get to educating the sheep that follow the government warnings without thinking it through.
All the best,
Barb

Customer story
Dear Green Valley,
I have a 15 year old son that suffers from acne. For the past year he has been on countless prescriptions and creams. He has tried over the counter cleansers and I have even gone as far as taking him to my facialist every six weeks. Nothing was helping him.
I could see his self esteem diminishing as the scarring got worse. His acne was almost all cystic so they scarred because of their depth. One night I was researching alternative acne remedies and found Frankincense kept popping up. I ordered it and when it arrived we started using it at once.
Within 3 days of just nighttime use, his skin was remarkably better. Now it's been two weeks and he's hardly showing any spots and the scars and dark spots are decreasing rapidly. I regret not taking a before and after photo, but I honestly didn't think there would be this dramatic of a change so quickly.
He dots it on the red spots after he showers just once a day. I also ordered organic coco butter and have made a moisturizer for the day for him. Frankincense rules!!! Judy
Thank you for sharing, Judy! |

Product Profiles
In past years, hydrosol was just the by-product of distilling essential oil and was a huge problem for farmers to dispose of. Today we are more aware of the benefits of hydrosol; its gentleness and abilities to lift the spirit, heal the body and support the mind. Let us be clear. Hydrosol is NOT essential oil added to water. It is the steam that has gone through the plant material. As it cools
down the steam reverts back to water that contains
 molecules of the plant.
Hydrosols coming straight from the still must be refrigerated. Only if they have a preservative added can they be left out of the cooler. There are a lot of uses for hydrosol and plenty of information as it has become quite popular on the internet.
Here are some suggestions for using Peppermint hydrosol:
Most hydrosols are wonderful for freshening up in the hot weather, more so if it has been in the fridge. Peppermint hydrosol is a must for hot flashes. Just spray around the neck, front and back. Peppermint is an astringent so it makes a good toner for oily skin. It also makes a good mouthwash / breath freshener. I have heard it is good for razor burn and it takes the itch out of rashes, insect bites and stings. Try making ice cubes out of your hydrosol. These are good for bites, especially for children. Very soothing.
Peppermint hydrosol is very good for disinfecting the air. If someone brings home an infection, a cold or one of the childhood diseases, make sure you spray the air with your hydrosol. My Mum had dementia before she passed away and was quite delicate. She had a low immune system and was wide open to getting infected with something. I used the Peppermint hydrosol regularly. Apart from helping her with the immune deficiency, it just seemed to perk her up. Profile on 3 of our most precious oils.
Rose, Neroli and Jasmine essential oils are our 3 most expensive essential oils, hence "precious oils". Use them carefully and they will go a long way. One drop of precious oil will have the same effect as 2 sometimes 3 drops of other oils, from a therapeutic and aroma point of view. Rose and Jasmine are both base notes so their aroma will last longer and the therapeutic life is approximately 5 to 6 years (according to our suppliers). I understand from my training many years ago that Rose and Jasmine improve with age like a good wine.
Rose and Jasmine essential oils have similar properties though completely different aromas. Both these oils are very valuable in skin care preparations and are seen extensively on the market, but whether they are pure essential oils or fragrances we do not always know. Confetti at weddings was the western world copying a tradition from India where brides do not always get to meet the groom until the wedding. This creates much nervousness. The aroma from the rose petals and the aphrodisiac properties would calm down the bride and the groom. Jasmine could create the same atmosphere as rose, but the petals do not lend themselves the way rose petals do.
Rose and Jasmine are good at boosting feelings of confidence and optimism. Their ability to calm the mind and slow the heart rate is being monitored in some emergency hospitals.
Neroli is my favourite essential oil. I love the light, sweet, citrus aroma. It seems to work well for my high blood pressure. I am not sure if this is due to its calming properties, which is said to mildly sedate the central nervous system, or to the fact that I find the aroma so intoxicating that I forget the stress, to-do list etc. and just calm down. I add Neroli to creams, shampoo, the bath, the bottoms of my feet, diffusers, tissues and many other things. I use Neroli hydrosol as a perfume and freshener up. When my grandchildren were in diapers, I cleaned many a little bottom with this wonderful aroma.
The 6 blends in the Spiritual Support Team are Empowered, Higher Being, Peace, Solace, Nurturance and Transitions. Each of these blends has a synergy of essential oils that will support you through whatever your crisis may be.
Empowered contains Cypress, Frankincense, Rose and Vetivert. These oils are quoted in the bible and in many ancient writings for reducing anxiety and grounding you on your personal journey. Higher Being contains Cedarwood, Petitgrain, Sage, Black Pepper and Grapefruit. The journey within to connect with our higher being must begin with a single step. The road will have many potholes and each step will be met with challenges while moving along and releasing old barriers. Peace contains Grapefruit, Rose Geranium, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang for peace and inner harmony. The essential oils that make up this blend are all anti-depressant, balancing, emotional stimulant, relaxant and sedative. Solace contains Bergamot, Benzoin, Marjoram and Sandalwood. This blend of essential oils creates a companion to help you work through the grief and gently guide you through the dark back into the sunshine. Sandalwood was used for the pyres to burn the dead in India. When the wood was hot it released its aroma helping people to cry and deal with their grief. Nurturance contains Bitter Orange (top note), Patchouli (base note), Petitgrain (middle note) and Rose Geranium (middle note). These oils work together to create a perfect synergy or a fragrant hug. They are my comfort oils. Patchouli is an anti-depressant and aphrodisiac. Bitter Orange is mildly sedative and anti-depressant. Petitgrain is anti-depressant, nervine and sedative. Rose Geranium is calming, uplifting and emotionally balancing. Transitions contains Geranium, Lemon, Black Pepper and Rosemary. Changes can be challenging whether it is your choice or not. Let Transitions work its magic as part of your support team. These blends can be used in the bath/shower, in a diffuser, on a tissue in your pocket, in an inhaler, mixed with a carrier oil for a massage, mixed with your shampoo, added to your moisturizer, in the tumble dryer...in other words, surround yourself with them and they will help and protect you.
