MY BABY IS GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL JUNE 1!!!

My husband and I have been parenting our three children for 26 years and they were students in Orange County Public Schools for the last 21 of those years. I can't believe my time as a parent of school-aged children is coming to a close.

My time of taking first-day-of-school pictures, driving carpools, attending open houses (39 of them if you figure all three kids had 13), checking Progress Book (easily 10,000 times), shopping at book fairs, parent/teacher conferences, attending school events (plays, chorus and band performances, oration contests, sporting events), requiring children to make up incomplete assignments (even if they didn't get credit for them), serving at teacher appreciation events, selling wrapping paper (and stickers, candy, candles, etc), listening to connect orange messages, picking sick kids up from school, attending field trips, taking homecoming and prom pictures, and so much more is about to be complete (finished, terminated, ceased, concluded, ended, closed, DONE)! I can't decide if I am happy or sad.

Wait a minute, I am a school board member. I will still get to participate in many of these school-related activities with the approximately 200,000 students and 23,000 employees within OCPS! Thank goodness! I am not ready for it to end completely yet, so I'm happy!

I am also thankful to every teacher, staff member, principal, media specialist, receptionist, school service worker, dean, school clinic assistant, guidance counselor, school psychologist, assistant principal, custodian, coach, staffing specialist, assistant principal, bookkeeper and many others that had a positive impact on my children through the past 21 years of their time in OCPS. My children are better prepared for college and careers because of everything they learned from all of you -- my husband and I couldn't have done it alone. Thank YOU for your care of my children and all of the many others you encourage daily to be all they can be!

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation during the month of May and finish up the last month of school, please be sure to thank a teacher for all they do for the children of OCPS!

Thank you for allowing me to serve our community as your voice on the school board. Please contact me anytime with your thoughts, questions or concerns regarding the school district.

Sincerely,

Nancy Robbinson

It's hard to believe that the 2015-16 school year is winding down. The last day of class for students is June 8. For more than 13,000 seniors, their OCPS journey will be coming to an end. Coordinating graduations for 19 high schools is always a big job. Click here to see this year's graduation schedule.

On May 17, the School Board recognized this year's Super Scholars - graduating seniors who have been accepted into the best national universities, liberal arts colleges, and U.S. Service Academies, as ranked on the Top 20 list published by U.S. News and World Report. Changes to Next Year's Calendar
calendar-kids-banner.jpg

The school calendar for the 2016-17 school year will look a little different for parents and students. Classes will begin a week earlier that usual, beginning Monday, August 15. Another important change is that students will not have the entire week off for Thanksgiving. Students will be in class Monday and Tuesday, November 21-22, followed by Thanksgiving Break, November 23-25. These alterations will allow the first semester to end before Winter Break. Students will no longer have to return to class in January and take final assessments for the semester. Spring break will be March 20-24, 2017 and the last day of school for students will be May 31, 2017.
