In this issue, you'll find some important community meeting dates for parents to learn more about changes to the Florida accountability system's school grade assignments. And also, this issue focuses on a few high school and post graduate topics that I think all parents and students will find interesting. I can't believe there are only three and a half months of school left until graduation for our Seniors and summer break for many! Wow!
School Grades Community Meetings

Free SAT Prep Offered for Students
All OCPS 11th grade students will be taking the SAT test for free at all schools on April 12.

Students have a FREE resource to prepare for the newly designed test. The Khan Academy has partnered with The College Board to create an interactive website that can be accessed from any electronic device, such as a computer, tablet or mobile phone. The website features four official full-length practice tests and eight diagnostic quizzes. It offers personalized tutoring and interactive practice recommendations for students, based on their answers on PSAT tests.

There is constant feedback, including video lessons, hints and tips. Students can practice anytime, anywhere for FREE. Click here to register: https://www.khanacademy.org/sat.

Graduation Rate Highest in District History
Last month, the Florida Department of Education released the 2014-15 graduation rates for the state, districts and high schools. Oak Ridge High School increased its graduation rate by 12.7 percentage points from 74.2 percent to 86.9 percent. Notably, over the last five years, four OCPS high schools have increased their graduation rate by more than 10 percentage points as shown in the table below.

OCPS Live Streaming Board Meetings
In January, OCPS began live streaming all school board meetings. The school board typically meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 5:30 PM. Previously, board meetings were recorded and replayed at a later date on OrangeTV and posted on the district's website. In addition to board meetings, an audio stream of all school board work sessions will also be available.

The live stream of meetings can be found on the School Board's YouTube page and will be accessible from web browsers on computers or mobile devices. To find the live stream, visit http://www.boardmeetings.ocps.net.

The live stream will also be aired on VisionTV on the following television outlets:

  • Bright House Networks Channel 492
  • Comcast Networks Channel 98
  • CenturyLink Channels 1082 (HD) and 82 (SD)
  • AT&T U-verse Channel 99
  • Over the Air Digital Broadcast Channel 29.3

OrangeTV will continue to air replays of school board meetings at 9:00 AM on the Fridays of the same week they aired live and the following Wednesday at 7:00 PM.  For a full list of meeting dates, and topics, visit: http://www.ocps.net.
