What you Need to Know about the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act [WIOA] - formerly known as WIA [Workforce Investment Act], recently signed into law by President Obama:
WIOA, according to USICH, helps  ensure that people experiencing or at-risk of homelessness have improved employment opportunities by:
1.  recognizing people experiencing homelessness as a specific population with barriers to employment;
2.  reinforcing the intent of the workforce system to assist people with significant barriers to employment - removing perceived disincentives for serving those with greatest needs for support;
3.  increasing local coordination and flexibility to meet the unique needs of people experiencing homelessness and regional job skill demand.

CALL TO ACTION:
Homeless Children & Youth Act of 2014
Sponsored in the U.S. Senate by Sen. Feinstein [D-CA], Sen. Portman [R-OH] and Sen. Begich [D-AK] and in the House of Representatives by Congressman Stivers [R-OH-15] and Congressman Miller [CA-CA-11], it would make it easier for homeless families and unaccompanied homeless youth to receive HUD homeless assistance

Runaway & Homeless Youth Trafficking & Prevention Act
Introduced by Senators Leahy [D-VT] & Collins [R-ME], this bill reauthorizes the Runaway & Homeless Youth Act and makes critical updates to enable these programs to serve unaccompanied homeless youth as well

National Campaign for Youth Shelter
An immediate federal commitment to add 22,000 youth shelter beds - a five fold increase & a comprehensive effort to count the number of homeless children & youth

National Campaign to Restore Housing Voucher Funding
National campaign to restore the 70,000 housing choice vouchers that Congress cut during the sequestration. Cutting these vouchers during a housing crisis was irresponsible,  and we can not allow the current funding to be the new baseline for funding in the next budget.
Join the grassroots campaign to restore the housing voucher funding.
