IDOT Shuts Down State Road Construction
|
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has sent notice to their contractors to stop all construction and prepare to make construction work zones safe for a possible "long term" shut down by June 30. This road construction shut down is due to the lack of a state budget and an appropriation.
This will impact several projects in Lake County where federal funding is administered by IDOT. In Lake Zurich this is the intersection improvement project at Ela Road & Route 12. Other Lake County projects due to be shut down are:
- Washington Street Grade Separation
- Deerfield Road - in the Village of Deerfield and City of Highland Park
- Waukegan Road (IL 43) Traffic Signal improvements
LCDOT will be working with our Resident Engineers and contractors to make sure that the roadways are as safe as possible for the traveling public.
Lake Zurich's street resurfacing projects will continue as previously announced since funding is through local tax dollars.

Lake Zurich gains Panera Cafe located at the northeast corner of Rand Road and Route 22.
The official ribbon cutting takes place on Tuesday, June 28th at 8:30 am.
A soft opening on last Wednesday morning allowed for additional training of employees and to work out any last minute kinks.

Resident Sex Offender Notification
|
Lake Zurich Police partners with OffenderWatch®, an online sex offender registration and public notification portal. Lake Zurich is part of a nationwide network of over 5,000 law enforcement agencies which includes 120 Illinois agencies. The service is a citizen-friendly, easy to use website that enables citizens to search for potentially dangerous sex offenders and predators, which may be in close proximity to their homes, places of work, schools, churches and day care centers.
The information is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and is updated in real time by the Lake Zurich Police Department as offender information changes and is reported. As part of this new, innovative service, citizens may enter any address of interest to them, and see a map and listing of all offenders within a user defined radius (.25 miles out to 2 miles) of that address. Citizens can then register the address to be continuously monitored by the Lake Zurich Police Department, who will send to them an e-mail alerting them if an offender or predator should register an address within their specified radius of their address. Citizens may confidentially register as many addresses as they like, at no cost to them.
The purpose of the program is to lessen the anxiety of citizens by proactively alerting them should an offender/predator move within proximity to them, and to provide the highest level of security and safety to all Lake Zurich citizens. The program also enables the police department to verify that offender addresses do not violate any safety buffers that may be implemented around protected institutions in the village, such as schools, day care centers and parks, and helps law enforcement schedule compliance checks for verifying information provided by offenders.
