Lake Zurich's Strategic Future

Year Two Strategic Progress

In November 2013, the Village of Lake Zurich adopted a Five Year Strategic Plan, with a set of core goals to be accomplished by 2019.  Last week, a Strategic Plan Year Two Progress Report was presented to the Village Board.

Over the past year, the Village has made substantial progress in the implementation of its strategic goals.  Many projects are prioritized by the annual budgeting process, at which time resources are targeted to achieve a particular objective.  The Strategic Plan is an ongoing effort, with the Village capitalizing on new opportunities as they arise, and will remain a work in progress.

Road Resurfacing in Lake Zurich Starting Soon

Rand Estates, the Orchards, Mossley Hill Estates, Jonquil Estates and Frontage Road

The Village is pleased to advise you that it has contracted with Geske and Sons to provide road resurfacing over the coming months.  Click here for a map of roads to be resurfaced in the 2016 program.

Construction is scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 22 with an estimated completion date of August 21.  Construction activities will be limited to the hours of 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday, and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

The work will consist of milling and resurfacing the existing pavement, plus removal and replacement of existing curb and sidewalk as needed.  Upon completion of the proposed improvements, the road should have a projected service life of 15-20 years.

Please note that until the project is complete, on-street parking will not be permitted at any time during construction hours, even if there appears to be no construction taking place at that time.  This will allow work crews to continue work unimpeded.  Cars parked on the street during the hours of construction may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

Sanitary Sewer Lining Update

Phase 1 Complete.  Moving to Phase 2.

Work is complete on Phase 1 of the sanitary sewer lining project at Twin Orchards Golf Course and Aptakisic Road.  Crews will be performing accuracy tests of the Phase 1 lining via video televising of the sanitary pipe and the bypass pipe will be removed soon.

As the Village moves into Phase 2 of this lining project, contractors are scheduled to begin cleaning sewer pipes on Route 22 within the next two weeks, which is the first step before lining reinforcement can be installed.  The bypass pipe down Route 22 is expected to be in place within the next three or four weeks.

The image above shows the section of sanitary line along Route 22 and Old Mill Grove Road that is targeted of lining improvements (in yellow).

Lake Zurich More Transparent Than Ever

Village Scores 97% from Illinois Policy Institute

The Illinois Policy Institute has recognized the high level of transparency in Lake Zurich by granting the Village a Sunshine Award and a transparency score of 96.8%.

Only 79 taxing bodies out of nearly 7,000 in Illinois have earned the Sunshine Award.  Lake Zurich is now in this elite category of the most transparent local governments in Illinois.

The Sunshine Award is earned by local governments that have outstanding online transparency performance by accounting for how taxpayer dollars are being spent, using proactive online transparency to prevent government corruption, and encouraging citizens to take an active, educated role in the local government decision-making process.

If you are curious about just how transparent Lake Zurich has become, check out the Village Transparency Portal.

Scam Alert!

ComEd Warns of Increased Scams Lately

ComEd warns of scam artists posing as utilities targeting small businesses and some residential customers.

Scammers are contacting customers by phone and in-person claiming to be ComEd representatives and telling them their service will be disconnected unless payment is made. They instruct the individual to wire funds or buy a prepaid credit card and call them back with the personal identification number (PIN).

Variations of the scam include stories that the customer's billing cycle has changed and payment is needed immediately, or that the account is past due and immediate payment is required to avoid disconnection of service, or that the customer's previous payments were not accepted or processed.

Never provide your social security or personal information to anyone initiating contact with you claiming to be a ComEd representative or requesting you to send money to another person or entity other than ComEd.

People that believe they have been a target of a phone scam are urged to contact the Illinois Attorney General's office toll free at 1-800-386-5438 (TTY 1-800-964-3013) or visit the Illinois Attorney General's web site at illinoisattorneygeneral.gov and click on the link "Protecting Consumers".

Walking with the Ladies of Mount Saint Joseph

Fund Raiser Walk Set for June 25, 9 am - 12:30 pm

The Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph Home would like to remind Lake Zurich families and friends to be sure to register for the Walk for Mount Saint Joseph Home that is quickly coming up.  This is a great event for the residents and an important fundraiser for the Mount St. Joseph Association which does so much for us by funding much needed acquisitions, renovation of the facility, and resident events.

Your support is appreciated and is essential to helping Mount Saint Joseph Association fund the Mount Saint Joseph Home and its cherished residents. This year a sense of urgency exists for Mount Saint Joseph.  With the State of Illinois budget and financial crisis, there is uncertainty of future funding for Mount Saint Joseph.   They must be positioned to help the Sisters maintain the quality of life for the residents, maintain the facility and meet operating expenses.
