Success - Lake Zurich Takes Over Wauconda Dispatch
|
 Transition Goes Smoothly
Last week, Lake Zurich's Regional 911 Dispatch Center took over emergency communications for the Village of Wauconda and the Wauconda Fire Protection District.
For the resident's of Wauconda, the change was largely transparent as months of discussion, planning, technology deployment, and training resulted in a smooth transition. Lake Zurich now provides dispatch services to a combined population of 81,278, including Wauconda, Kildeer, Hawthorn Woods, Tower Lakes, Island Lake, the Wauconda Fire Protection District, and the Lake Zurich Fire Protection District.

 Waste Management Will Handle It

A bulk item is a piece of furniture or a residential item that is too large for a container or small amounts of construction materials and carpeting (cut into 4-foot bundles). Please limit your item to no more than 50 pounds and no longer than 7 feet. Call Waste Management in advance to schedule collection of appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, or any large household appliance.

AAA Bond Rating Reaffirmed
|
 Lake Zurich Grabs Top Status
The Village of Lake Zurich has once again received a AAA long-term bond rating on General Obligation debt, a status that will save the residents of Lake Zurich hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Standard & Poor's (S&P) assigned its AAA status to Lake Zurich in response to an upcoming General Obligation bond refinancing, which is expected to save over $700,000 of taxpayer money over the remaining life of the debt.
S&P is calling Lake Zurich's financial outlook "stable" and the management policies of the Village "good." Other specifics that S&P cited for Lake Zurich's solid financial rating include:
- "Strong" budgetary performance, with an operating surplus in the general fund.
- "Very strong" budgetary flexibility, with an available fund balance that is 29% of operating expenditures.
- "Very strong" liquidity, with total government available cash at 58.5% of total governmental fund expenditures.
The AAA rating improves the Village's access to bond markets and capital funds at a lower cost, resulting in savings for taxpayers.
The AAA rating status is the highest attainable bond status a municipality can achieve. Less than 3% of Illinois municipal governments have showed the financial fortitude and good management practices to successfully earn such a distinguished ranking.

Take Some Steps to Eliminate Sources of Mosquitoes
|
Village Arranges for Mosquito Control
With the spring rains and increasing temperatures, the mosquito population will start to spike. The Village partners with Clarke, an environmental service company that works in public health mosquito control. Monitoring starts each year in June by inspecting local wetlands.
The Village actively tracks the local mosquito population through scientific sampling three times each week to monitor for West Nile Virus. The virus is quite rare, with only 20 human cases in Lake County since 2008.
Your Responsibility
Prevent mosquito breeding on your property and minimize the risk to you and your family to get infected by the West Nile virus.
- Discard old tires, buckets, drums or any water holding containers; poke holes in tires used as bumpers on docks
- Keep roof gutters and downspouts clear of debris
- Keep trash containers covered
- Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week and store indoors when not in use
To report potential mosquito breeding areas, please call the Clarke Mosquito Hotline at 800-942-2555

Spotlight on Lake Zurich Business - Craving Gyros
|
Downtown Lake Zurich's Newest Restaurant
Downtown Lake Zurich is the new home of Craving Gyros, a Greek-style restaurant on the corner of Main Street and Old Rand Road. Craving Gyros opened in fall of 2015, so it's still one of Lake Zurich's newest places to grab a hot chicken sandwich, succulent gyro, delicious pork kebab platter, or delightful Greek salad.
Owned and operated by Bill and Nikki, former owners of Tasty Spin in Buffalo Grove, Craving Gyros offer patrons a generous amount of food and is definitely worth a stop next time you are passing through downtown Lake Zurich. Craving Gyros is open Monday - Saturday, from 11 am to 8 pm, and closed on Sunday.
