Village Approves $38 Million Budget
|
Village Board Unanimously Approves Balanced Budget Plan for New Fiscal Year
The Village of Lake Zurich has approved a new budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins on May 1, 2016.
The annual budget is a balanced operational plan for the upcoming fiscal year, primarily due to the Village's organizational and financial restructuring efforts over the past couple of years. The new budget shows a projected operating surplus of $37,300.
The difficult budgetary decisions of the past, coupled with an improving economy, stronger revenue base, and increasingly efficient operations have contributed to this stable fiscal condition.
The Village continues to operate under the cloud of the State of Illinois' fiscal crisis, increasing pension obligations to the police and firefighter pension funds, and a lack of sustainable funding for critical capital needs. In the future, these long-term budget challenges could result in cuts to basic police, fire and public works services, increased taxes, or a combination of both.
As in the past, the Village will continue to hope for the best but prepare contingencies for less favorable scenarios. View Annual Budget

Secretary of State Location in Lake Zurich - Citizen Engagement Requested
|
Courtesy Review of Potential Secretary of State Location Set for May 2 Village Board Meeting
The Fidelity Group has requested approval of a Special Use Permit for a 9,638 square foot Secretary of State facility at 951 South Rand Road in Deerpath Commons, adjacent to the House of Hope. The Village Board will consider this proposal on the May 2 agenda.
It is estimated the highest traffic volumes would occur at this Secretary of State facility in the morning hours of Tuesday and Saturday.
This proposed facility includes four to six vehicle testing sites and a motorcycle testing area behind the Flooring Boutique at 923 South Rand Road. There are no plans to include commercial driver's license (CDL) testing.
The Village Board will provide a courtesy review of this proposed Secretary of State facility at its May 2 meeting. This is an initial courtesy review prior to a detailed development review by the Planning & Zoning Commission.
We want to know what you think. If you would like to provide online feedback on this redevelopment, please do so by engaging the Village with an online input survey. All comments will be shared with the Village Board and Planning & Zoning Commission.

Lake Zurich Property Taxes: Where Your Money is Being Spent
|
Average Lake Zurich Household Pays Less than $100 a Month for Municipal Services
For less than the cost of many cable TV or cell phone bills, Lake Zurich residents receive a full spectrum of local government services. What does your family get in exchange for property taxes?
- 24 hour police, fire, and paramedic services, including a top-of-the-line regional emergency dispatch center.
- 80 miles of local streets and sidewalks with reliable street lights that illuminate our neighborhoods.
- Extensive network of underground and storm water infrastructure, providing you with safe water, reliable plumbing, and property drainage during rains.
- Snow and ice removal during the winter months.
- 232 acres of parks and open space, including 32 parks, 22 playgrounds and 2 public beaches.
So how much do you pay directly?
- If your annual property tax bill is $4,000, the Village receives $46 a month.
- If your annual property tax bill is $6,000, the Village receives $70 a month.
- If your annual property tax bill is $8,000, the Village receives $93 a month.
The Village Board of Trustees and Village Staff work diligently to keep municipal services operating as efficiently as possible by using your taxes wisely. As the above graphic shows, the Village only receives about 15 % of your total property tax bill. We hope you feel the level of service provided from the Village is well-worth the level of taxes you contribute.

Pilot Program for Parkway Tree Replacement
|
Primary Focus on Species Diversity
Just in time for Arbor Day, the Village of Lake Zurich will begin replacing the 2,700 parkway trees that were removed over the last three years due to the Emerald Ash Borer infestation.
The Village is including $50,000 of Capital Projects Funds in the new Fiscal Year 2016b budget to begin the multi-year parkway tree replacement effort.
The Village Board of Trustees is scheduled to approve the Parkway Tree Replacement Pilot Program at its May 2, 2016 meeting.
Approximately 175 houses are expected to receive a tree in this first year of the Parkway Tree Replacement Pilot Program, which can be adjusted in future years based on outcomes and public participation. The exact number of trees will be known after a future bid opening with area landscaping companies is conducted.
All Lake Zurich residents do have the option to pay for a replacement parkway tree sooner if they prefer. A no-fee application process is in place to ensure new parkway trees are planted appropriately.
