Lake Zurich's New Village Manager

Ray Keller to Take Leadership Role as Top Executive Officer

Mr. Ray Keller has been selected to lead Lake Zurich's municipal operations and citizen engagement as the community's next Village Manager.  Mr. Keller is an accomplished local government manager with a proven track record and over 20 years of experience, most recently serving as the Village Administrator of Gilberts, Illinois (pop. 7,433) for the past nine years.

"Ray brings to the table exactly what Lake Zurich needs in order to continue the progress we've made in recent years," according to Mayor Poynton. "He is a true professional with an adaptive leadership style, innovative and practical approach to service delivery, and an emphasis on strategic outcomes and community partnerships. We look forward to the skills and leadership he will be bringing to our excellent team of elected officials and highly-regarded professional staff."

"I'm excited to work with the Mayor, the Trustees, the staff and the community to realize their goals for Lake Zurich," said Ray Keller. "I look forward to building upon their successes to enhance Lake Zurich's character as a desirable place to live, work and thrive."

Mr. Keller will focus on ongoing efforts to stabilize the Village's long-term financial position and plan for the replacement of aging infrastructure. With his past experience in planning and economic development, Mr. Keller will also lead the Village's efforts to encourage downtown revitalization and pursue new development opportunities along the Route 12 and Route 22 corridors.

The Village Board anticipates officially appointing Mr. Keller as Village Manager at their January 18 meeting.  Mr. Keller's first day in Lake Zurich is planned for March 7.

Early Review of Redevelopment Concept at Former K-Mart Property on Route 12 - Citizen Input Requested

The next Village Board meeting is on Monday, January 18, 7:00 pm at Village Hall.  Trustees will be discussing several important topics, including a potential redevelopment of the 7.25 acre property at 225 South Rand Road, the site of the former K-Mart building.

The owner of the property proposes demolition of the current building and construction of three separate residential rental buildings, each consisting of three stories over indoor parking, along with approximately 21,615 square feet of retail space.

The proposed plan includes a mix of one, two and three bedroom rental units ranging from 910 to 1,680 square feet, with larger units offering two baths.

This is only a concept plan at this point.

While the redevelopment is still in the early concept stage, the Village Board will be providing a courtesy review to the developer on January 18 in order to address potential issues, prior to the Planning and Zoning Commission reviewing zoning and building site reviews in detail during the coming months.

To view the  available concept plans for this potential redevelopment, visit LakeZurich.org.  If you would like to provide online feedback on this redevelopment, please do so by engaging the Village with an online survey.

Scam Alert - Electricity Swindles on the Rise

ComEd Warns Customers of Increase in Scam Artists Posing as Utility Companies

Over the last few weeks, ComEd has seen a large increase in reports from small businesses and residential customers who have been contacted by scam artists.

The individuals are contacting customers by phone and in-person claiming to be ComEd representatives and telling them their service will be disconnected unless payment is made.  They instruct the individual to wire funds or buy a prepaid credit card and call them back with the identification number.

Variations of the scam include stories that the customer's billing cycle has changed and payment is needed immediately, or that the account is past due and immediate payment is required to avoid disconnection of service, or that the customer's previous payments were not accepted or processed.

Representatives from ComEd always carry proper identification and never ask customers for cash or personal financial information.

People that believe they have been a target of a phone scam are urged to contact the Illinois Attorney General's office toll free at 1-800-386-5438 (TTY 1-800-964-3013) or visit the Illinois Attorney General's Office online.
