Snow Storm Alert Tonight.
|

Village Crews Standing Ready for Snow and Ice Removal
Lake Zurich has been busy preparing equipment and planning for the snow removal response effort during tonight's snow storm. Please stay off the roads as much as possible tonight to allow snow plows access during removal operations. The most important things to remember:
- Slow down. Plan ahead to give yourself enough time to get where you are going if you must be on the road.
- Stay back. Don't crowd the plow!
- Parking is prohibited on Lake Zurich streets during two or more inches of snowfall.
When Will My Street Get Plowed?
At the start of a snow event, Village crews focus first on clearing major roadways and roads adjacent to schools. Next come residential side streets and cul-de-sacs. The goal is to have all streets in a safe condition within eight hours after the snow event has substantially subsided.
Why Is Snow Plowed Into My Driveway?
Snowplows are designed to unload snow to the side, which results in snow being pushed to the curb where driveways are located. It is not feasible for the Village to plow snow from all the driveways in Lake Zurich. The Village suggests residents shovel snow on the parkway to the right of the driveway (when facing the street) so that it is "downstream" when the plow comes by.

Need a Larger Recycling Cart?
|
Swap Recycling Carts in December for Free
Earlier this year, residents received new refuse carts as part of the enhanced solid
waste collection contract the Village negotiated with Waste Management. The contract also called for a reduction in monthly fees and the opportunity for residents to upsize their recycling cart during the month of December 2015 at no charge.
The current 64-gallon recycling cart can be exchanged for a larger 96-gallon cart by calling Waste Management at 1-800-796-9696.
Customers requesting a different size recycling cart outside of the month of December will be charged a $25 fee.
For more details on the refuse and recycling program, including exact cart dimensions, visit LakeZurich.org.

Lake Zurich Thanksgiving Hours
|

Village Offices and Recreation Programs Closed
Lake Zurich Village Hall offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Regular hours will resume on Monday, November 30 from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Parks and Recreation programs will not be held on Thursday or Friday but will resume as normal on Saturday, November 28.
Refuse and Recycling
Waste Management, the Village's refuse and recycling service provider, will be following their traditional holiday schedule, resulting in one-day service delays for households that typically have their refuse and recyclables collected on Thursday or Friday.
If you normally have collection on Thursday, it will be Friday. If you normally have collection on Friday, it will be Saturday. As always, please have your refuse and recyclables ready for pickup by 6:00 am on your collection day.

State Budget Crisis Hits Home
|
Village Urges Release of Funds Being Held by State
There has been plenty of news lately regarding the State of Illinois budget crisis and how local municipalities are being impacted. This lack of consensus in Springfield is starting to harm funds for local services, including road construction and infrastructure maintenance. Mayor Tom Poynton and the Village Board of Trustees have unanimously urged the State to release these funds. See Resolution Urging State to Act.
Lake Zurich is not receiving revenue the State is holding, including Motor Fuel Tax, Local Use tax, video gaming fees, and 911 service fees. Currently this unreceived revenue adds up to about $170,000. If the State does not release these funds, the Village total estimate of lost revenue by the end of the fiscal year is $714,000.
Without these anticipated budgeted revenues actually showing up, there is the potential for budget deficits that would have to be closed through program cuts, tax and fee increases, increased borrowing, or a combination of these actions.
Residents are encouraged to contact State legislators and the Govenor to urge them to support the immediage release of all State-collected revenues that are owned to local villages and cities. Contact information can be found by clicking below:

Village Partners with Lake County for Building Inspections
|
Permits Will Still Be Picked Up at Community Services Facility
Lake Zurich and Lake County have partnered together and approved an
agreement for the County to conduct building inspections in the Village, a move that is expected to save at least $100,000 from the current year's budget and advance the Village's long-term strategic goals of service and financial sustainability.
Lake County inspectors possess all of the special certifications and licenses to provide quality inspections in compliance with Lake Zurich's Building Code. Building permits of all types will still be issued by the Village. If you need to apply for a permit or pick-up a permit, residents should continue to visit the Community Services Facility, 505 Telser Road.
