Happy Halloween Lake Zurich
|
Lake Zurich's trick-or-treating hours are on Halloween, Saturday, October 31 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm.
- Encourage children to not eat any treats before an adult has carefully checked them.
- Be clearly visible to motorists. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape that will glow in the beam of a car's headlights.
- Children are encouraged to carry lit flashlights after dark. Young children should always be accompanied by an adult or an older, responsible child. Trick-or-Treat in groups, never alone.

Annual "Kill on Old Mill" This Weekend
|
A Humble Tribute to this Festive Season
The Kill on Old Mill started many years ago with Halloween revelers visiting the house and peering through the front windows, eager to get a glimpse at the dark and foggy living room graveyard. As years passed, and people's time on earth expired, we were forced to expand the cemetery into the front yard and garage. Will you be next?

Daylight Savings Time Ends
|
While Your Doing That...Change Smoke Detector Batteries Too!
On Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 a.m. we turn our clocks back one hour because daylight savings time is ending.
The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department wants to remind residents to change the batteries in smoke detectors at the same time. You should also check the date on your detectors. If they are more than 10 years old, it is time to replace them.

Leaves in Street Can Cause Flooding
|
Help Keep Lake Zurich Sewers Open
Fall leaf collection is occurring throughout Lake Zurich until Friday, December 4.
As a reminder, leaves should be raked into the parkway within five feet of the curb, but not over the curb and into the street. Please try to keep leaves out of the street.

Repairs to Sanitary Sewer Transmission Line Are Underway
|
Traffic Detour in Effect
The Village operates and maintains a sewer transmission line that transmits Lake Zurich's sanitary waste to the Lake County treatment facility in Buffalo Grove.
On September 19, 2015, the Village was advised of a major sewer collapse on East Cuba Road about 500 feet west of Old McHenry Road in Long Grove. Lake Zurich has been proceeding with emergency infrastructure repairs which could end up costing over $1 million.
Repair work is now underway and a traffic detour route is in effect. All going well, construction is expected to be completed by the end of November.

County Freezes Monthly Fee for Lake Zurich Residents
Lake County has recently completed a rate and connection fee analysis, which indicated that the County's portion of the water and sewer rates need to be adjusted for the first time in nearly four years to ensure the most safe and reliable service possible. This change will apply to many of the County's utility customers.
Lake Zurich's sanitary sewer system connects to the Lake County treatment facility in Buffalo Grove. The Lake County Treatment Charge appears as a $4.00 per 1,000 gallon fee on your monthly Lake Zurich utility bill.
Fortunately, as a result of the County fee analysis, the sewer rate for Lake Zurich customers will remain the same at $4.00 per 1,000 gallons until at least January 1, 2018.
The Village of Lake Zurich will continue to work with Lake County to keep water and sewer rates low while also funding millions of dollars in operational and infrastructure maintenance costs. The rising costs of construction, aging underground pipes, and more stringent regulatory compliance result in a tough operating environment for the Village.

Emerald Ash Borer Action Plan
|
EAB Tree Removal Program to be Completed This Year
The Village's aggressive program to remove all of the ash trees infected with Emerald Ash Borer on public parkways will be finished by the end of December. In total, over 2,700 infected trees will be removed. In the near future, the Village plans to begin a multi-year replanting program for a diverse population of new trees.
Residents with ash trees on their private property are encouraged to consider removal. If ignored, the infected tree will soon drop its limbs or even fall over, potentially causing property damage. The Village Code requires that all exterior property and premises (including trees) be maintained in a safe condition.
The Village has partnered with McGinty Brothers of Long Grove, who has been asked to provide a competitive quote to residents who desire to have their private tree removed.

Video: Facts about the Route 53/120 Extension Project
|
Environmental Impact Study Considered
The proposed IL Route 53/120 project is at a critical juncture as the Illinois Tollway considers initiating an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process to study the project in detail and solicit public input. Many residents have questions about the project and unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation being shared.
In this video, Chairman Aaron Lawlor and Lake County Transportation Alliance Executive Director Steve Park provide facts about the proposed plan and dispel some of the myths. To learn more about the proposed Route 53/120 extension, visit ilroute53.org.
