Electricity Aggregation Tips

Should You Switch Electric Suppliers?

Several companies have been soliciting in Lake Zurich recently, offering residents electricity rates with the goal of lowering their ComEd bill.

The Village wants to encourage residents to be cautious when providing account information to solicitors.  Solicitors must register with the Police Department before going door-to-door in Lake Zurich.

  • Registered solicitors should have lanyards issued by the LZPD.  Ask to see this before talking further with them.

  • The Village does offers an electricity aggregation program through supplier Homefield Energy, which a majority of residents participate in.  Alternative suppliers may or may not be able to match the rates that Homefield Energy provides.

  • Homefield Energy rates are locked in as follows:

        July 2014 - June 2016: 7.199 cents/kWh

        July 2016 - June 2017: 6.350 cents/kWh

  • Residents may leave and rejoin the Village aggregation program with Homefield Energy for free at any time.  Please call Village Hall at 847-540-1684 to do so.

  • Shopping around for electricity only impacts the "supply" portion of your ComEd bill, not the total bill.  The "delivery" and "taxes/fees" sections do not change by switching suppliers.

  • When shopping for an electricity supplier, be cautious of any early termination penalty that may apply if you leave them in the future.

For more information on the Village's electric aggregation program with Homefield Energy, please visit LakeZurich.org or Homefield Energy's FAQ.
