The Village seeks your input regarding the important issue of storm water management.
Currently, there is no dedicated funding source to address storm water management needs (e.g. - localized flooding caused by severe storm events). Over the years, the addition of roads, driveways, parking lots, rooftops, and other surfaces work to prevent ground absorption, which greatly increases the runoff volume during severe storms.
One recent example of storm water flooding occurred on June 26, 2013 in the Cedar Creek subdivision where upwards of six inches of rain fell in less than four hours. Several homes in the area experienced severe flooding, some of which filled basements with ten feet of water and entered first floor living spaces. Other neighborhoods across Lake Zurich were impacted as well. This localized flooding event occurred in a manner of minutes and caused thousands of dollars of damage to houses and vehicles. While this is an extreme example of a severe stormwater management problem, other Lake Zurich neighborhoods might be at risk of storm water flooding as well.
As Lake Zurich has grown over the past several decades, the amount of paved surfaces has increased substantially. We would like to get your thoughts on how Lake Zurich should invest in storm water management. Below is a link to a short question survey on possible funding sources that could be implemented to help fund future storm water management improvements.
Your feedback is appreciated.
