Storm Water Management in Lake Zurich

The Village seeks your input regarding the important issue of storm water management.

Currently, there is no dedicated funding source to address storm water management needs (e.g. - localized flooding caused by severe storm events).  Over the years, the addition of roads, driveways, parking lots, rooftops, and other surfaces work to prevent ground absorption, which greatly increases the runoff volume during severe storms.

One recent example of storm water flooding occurred on June 26, 2013 in the Cedar Creek subdivision where upwards of six inches of rain fell in less than four hours.  Several homes in the area experienced severe flooding, some of which filled basements with ten feet of water and entered first floor living spaces.  Other neighborhoods across Lake Zurich were impacted as well.  This localized flooding event occurred in a manner of minutes and caused thousands of dollars of damage to houses and vehicles.  While this is an extreme example of a severe stormwater management problem, other Lake Zurich neighborhoods might be at risk of storm water flooding as well.

As Lake Zurich has grown over the past several decades, the amount of paved surfaces has increased substantially. We would like to get your thoughts on how Lake Zurich should invest in storm water management.  Below is a link to a short question survey on possible funding sources that could be implemented to help fund future storm water management improvements.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Police Now Carrying Naloxone

Lake Zurich Police Save Life with Naloxone

Lake Zurich Police Officers can join the ranks of other Lake County law enforcement agencies saving lives utilizing an emergency-responder treatment program established by the Lake County Opioid Initiative.

On Sunday, April 5, Lake Zurich Police Officers Randy Witt, Brad Hoops and Adam Young became the latest officers to revive an overdose victim using a Naloxone auto-injector that provides fast-acting medicine to counteract opioid overdoses.

The officers responded to a call in the 100 block of Rosehall Drive of a 24 year old male that had overdosed, was unconscious and not breathing. The officers used two doses of Naloxone and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in successful efforts to revive the victim. He was then transported to Good Shepherd Hospital by Lake Zurich fire personnel.

Lake Zurich Police Officers recently received training by the Lake County Health Department in the use of Naloxone in conjunction with the Lake County Opioid Initiative.

Hydrant Flushing Starts in April

Ensuring the Delivery of Reliable Water

Lake Zurich's annual hydrant flushing program begins the week of Monday, April 20, 2015 and ends two weeks later on Friday, May 1, 2015.

The flushing of hydrants may cause tap water to be temporarily discolored.  The discoloration is not harmful and running the tap for a few minutes will clear it up.  The Village recommends that you do not wash clothes the day before, the day of and the day after hydrant flushing for your area since discoloration may occur outside of the scheduled flushing area.
