IL Route 53/120 Extension Project

What Do You Think?

Lake Zurich Mayor Tom Poynton serves as a volunteer on the Finance Committee for the proposed Illinois Route 53/120 extension and wants to engage the Lake Zurich community on the project. So what do you think?

Please take this short five question survey to tell us how you feel about the proposed extension.

A project overview is available from the Illinois Tollway.

Lake Zurich Ranked #1 in State

Best in State for Young Families

Lake Zurich has been ranked the best town for young families in Illinois, thanks in part to abundant recreational opportunities, an exceptional education system, and a strong local cultural and social scene.

Downtown Development on the Horizon?

Group Steps Up for Potential Development

The Village's downtown "Block A" site is the open parcel of land on W. Main Street by the Promenade overlooking the lake.

In January, the Block A subcommittee met with Toll Brothers Inc., a publically traded national development group with 47 years of experience.  Toll Brothers has presented themselves as an experienced and financially capable group and will be meeting with the Village Board to discuss a development Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday, February 17.

Some prior development experience of Toll

Brothers includes:

  • Patriot Commons at the Glen in Glenview (120 luxury condos)
  • Palatine Station in Palatine (75 luxury row homes)
  • Navel Square in Philadelphia (619 luxury condos)
  • Maxwell Place in Hoboken, New Jersey (832 luxury condos and waterfront retail)
  • Pierhouse in Brooklyn, New York City (106 townhomes).

Ice Fishing Derby - 2/15/15

Bring your ice fishing rod and try your luck at the free Family Ice Fishing Derby on Sunday, February 15.  Registration begins at 12:30 pm and the fishing derby runs from 1:00 pm - 230 pm.  Participants should report to the fishing pier at Paulus Park.

Lake Zurich is stocked with bluegill, largemouth bass, northern pike, white crappie, yellow bullhead, and yellow perch.  Holes will be pre-drilled into the ice for participants and trophies will be awarded.  This is a catch and release event for all ages.  We will have free hot cocoa while supplies last.

For more information, please call the Parks and Recreation Department at 847-438-5146.

Electronics Recycling

Six Collection Sites Available

Recently, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) was forced to reduce the number of permanent collection sites for electronics from 18 to 6 due to the fact that SWALCO is now required to partially fund the transportation and recycling of the electronics.

The Village of Lake Zurich's collection site was one of the sites that has now closed.  The nearest site for Lake Zurich residents to dispose of electronics free of charge is:

  • Wauconda Township Road District Facility, 505 W. Bonner Road, Wauconda.

The site is open the 1st Saturday of the month from 9 am - noon and Monday - Friday from 7 am - 3:30 pm.

To view a list of accepted items, please visit SWALCO.org.

Waste Management Refuse Carts

New Carts to be Delivered in March

Waste Management will deliver new refuse carts to Lake Zurich residents during March with the rate reduction beginning on April 1.

Residents who did specifically choose a smaller cart will automatically receive the 96-gallon default sized cart.  After using the new cart for a few weeks, during the month of June residents may exchange their refuse cart for no additional cost.  Otherwise, a $25 fee will be charged for cart exchanges.

Beginning July 2016 and once every 12 months thereafter, residents may also request a different sized cart for free.  This is a once-a-year option.

The refuse carts remain on display in the lobby of the Community Services Facility, 505 Telser Road.

What Do I Do With My Old Refuse Cart?

If your old refuse cart is 33 gallons or less, it can be used for landscape waste, which Waste Management will continue to collect free of charge from April to November.  Otherwise, they will pick-up the old refuse cart and dispose of it for free.

If the refuse container is being discarded, it must be clearly marked so the driver will know that it is refuse.

For further information, please visit LakeZurich.org or call Waste Management at 800-797-9696.

Join Us at Our Open House - 3/4/15

The Village is holding an Open House and Home Improvement Workshop on Wednesday, March 4 from 6pm - 8 pm at the Community Services Facility, 505 Telser Road.  All residents are invited to attend.

This event will be of particular interest to those planning a home improvement project this year - whether it's a room addition, remodel or an outdoor living space.  Building and zoning staff will be available to answer questions and discuss important details of your upcoming project.

A short presentation on Home Improvement Basics will start at 7 pm.

The Community Services staff is committed to working with residents and contractors to ensure building projects are safe and meet all standards.  For more information on permits and inspections, please visit LakeZurich.org.
