Electronic Recycling Site Closed For Now

SWALCO Stops County-Wide Program

Due to unforeseen difficulties in operating a program for public collection of electronics under  the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) has announced that effective December 18, 2014 SWALCO-supported residential electronics recycling collection sites within Lake County have closed until further notice.

This includes the Lake Zurich collection site at the Community Services facility on Telser Road.

For now, the closest options for Lake Zurich residents to bring their old electronics are:

  • Best Buy in Kildeer, 20771 N. Rand Road (fees apply).

  • Midwest Computer Recycling in Lake Bluff, 101 Skokie Valley Road (free drop off).

More information on alternative options for electronics recycling is available at swalco.org

Street Light Modernization Program

Using Green Energy to Brighten Lake Zurich's Future

The Lake Zurich Village Board recently approved the Street Light Modernization Program, which authorizes the conversation of Village-owned street lights to more efficient LED units.  This
conversion will result in substantial savings in energy consumption and emission of greenhouse gases.

The Village pays about $130,000 in electricity costs per year for the 170 street lights it owns.  The Street Light Modernization Program is projected to save the Village over $10,000 in
annual electricity costs.

Another positive note is that this conversation to energy efficient lighting will be almost entirely funded by a grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.  Thus, the Lake Zurich community will benefit at a minimal cost to the tax payer.
